After a long Lunar New Year (Tet) break and absence from school given the complicated development of the Covid-19 pandemic, many provinces have decided to open schools from February 22.
Specifically, students in the northern province of Bac Giang will return to school on February 22, as Covid-19 in the province is under control. Luc Nam Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities will open from March 1, according to Vietnamnet.
In the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, students will also return to school from February 22. The heads of specialized training schools decide the time for the re-opening. Particularly, students in Xin Man district – the home to patient 1976 – are going to return to school on March 1.
In the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai, preschoolers will stay home until February 28. However, high school students will return to school on February 22.

Similarly, students in the southern provinces of Bac Lieu and Tra Vinh will come back to school from February 22. Strict measures to prevent the Covid-19 epidemic will be applied at schools.
February 22 is also the time for pre-school, secondary, and high school students in the northern midland province of Phu Tho and 9th and 12th graders in the northern province of Thai Binh to return to school.
Other provinces, including Kon Tum in the Central Highlands, Binh Duong and An Giang in the southern region, and Lai Chau, Ninh Binh in the north, will also open schools on February 22.
Previously, a series of provinces and cities across the country let students stay home after the Tet break amid rising coronavirus cases.
Last year, Covid-19 also forced schools across the country to close for three months after Tet.
Three more Covid-19 patients were confirmed in the northern province of Hai Duong Tuesday morning, raising its community infections to 620 in less than a month, according to Vnexpress.
All of the new infections are related to previously confirmed patients in the province, where one of the first two cases in Vietnam's ongoing Covid-19 outbreak was detected on January 28, when community transmissions returned to the nation after almost two months.
Since then, infections have spread to 13 cities and provinces, with Hai Duong alone accounting for 620, its neighbor Quang Ninh reported 60, HCMC 36, and Hanoi 35.

All of Hai Duong is undergoing social distancing for 15 days starting February 16 as per a government directive on Covid-19 prevention.
The social distancing directive, the same applied nationwide in April last year to stem the spread of Covid-19, calls for people not to go outside except for getting food, medicine, or other emergencies; requires a minimum social distance of two meters and bans gatherings of more than two outside of hospitals, offices, schools, and public spaces.
Certain areas with large numbers of infections have imposed stricter lockdown.
Traffic through the province, home to more than two million people and more than an hour drive from Hanoi, has also been limited during the period, with only vehicles with essential purposes allowed to enter.
Farming activities and business operations, including those of many foreign firms, have thus been adversely affected.
By Tuesday morning, Vietnam has registered 2,395 Covid-19 cases and 640 are active.
Hanoi continues to shut schools to curb coronavirus infections Schools across Hanoi will remain closed through February after new coronavirus cases were recorded in the capital city over the past days. |
