The event was attended by the Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Do Minh Hung, representatives from various Vietnamese agencies in the UK, and Vietnamese associations in the UK, including the Intellectuals' Association, Business Association, Women's Association, and Students' Association.
According to VAUK President Tang Tuan Tu, the tournament is an annual event organized by VAUK to connect the Vietnamese community across the UK, encourage sportsmanship within the community, and enhance the image of Vietnamese people in the host country.
The tournament attracted over 200 players representing 15 teams from all over the UK, including major cities such as London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Portsmouth.
Especially, for the first time, the event featured young players competing in a children’s tournament, with four teams participating in the final round.
According to the VAUK President, through the effort of organizing the children's tournament, VAUK aims to create a meaningful playground, helping to connect Vietnamese youth across the UK and build national pride among the generation of Vietnamese born and raised in the UK.
The event took place in a joyful and vibrant atmosphere with exciting matches, under the enthusiastic support of numerous spectators.
At the end of the tournament, the Xom (Hamlet) team from London won the first prize, while the young players of the FC Longdan team won the children's tournament.
The organizers also awarded second and third prizes, top scorer, golden hand, and other titles to players and teams in both the adult and children’s tournaments.
After the tournament, a Gala Dinner was held with the participation of Vietnamese associations in the UK, players, and spectators, creating an opportunity for the Vietnamese expatriate community to interact and connect with each other.
At the event, VAUK raised a total of £5,300 (approximately US $7,000) through an auction of paintings and handicrafts donated by sponsors.
The funds raised will be allocated to the Scholarship Fund for outstanding academic achievers among the Vietnamese expatriate community in the UK.
