Teaching Youngsters Self-Defense In Tuyen Quang GNI

According to GNI, at lessons on "Improving Self-Defense Capacity", children watched puppet plays so that they could easily approach to lessons on child abuse, seduction, and kidnapping. This was the first time children had learned the scientific names of sensitive body parts. In addition, swimwear rules, the three steps of self-protection, and hypothetical plays were all taught by GNI teachers to all students.
With intuitive teaching methods and clear illustrated examples, after participating in the lessons, children were able to raise their awareness of protecting their bodies. Besides, plays assuming dangerous situations were also shown so that students could practice mastering the skills they learned.
This is one of the activities under the framework of project named "Strengthening the support and protection system for disadvantaged children - Hope Letter Project".
Hope Letter Project focuses on providing services related to child abuse prevention, activities supporting children with difficulties, thereby creating a premise in advocacy and handing over effective form of prevention education for the localities.

As of October 2021, the project has implemented 180 lessons on improving self-defense capacity (CES) and 50 performances of puppet drama to prevent child abuse (GPS) with more than the participation of 11,400 students. These project's activities supported 40 children with difficulties via the emergency telephone number for child protection, 111, known as the national switchboard for child protection with a total cost of more than 245 million VND.
In the coming time, GNI is expected to continue to deploy CES, GPS programs at primary schools in Yen Dinh District (Thanh Hoa Province), Hoa Binh City, Bac Tu Liem District (Hanoi). GNI shall continue to coordinate with the Department of Child Affairs, under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), to receive and support children with difficulties via the emergency telephone number for child protection, 111.
Hope Letter Project aims at strengthening child protection and support system, providing services of child abuse prevention and support for those with difficulties. Project activities include: (1) Support disadvantaged children received from National Helpline 111, (2) Good Puppet Show, (3) Raise awareness of self protection for children, etc. |
