Quantifying what makes a car beautiful is a matter, every decade brings a new trend, the '70s were all about wedges, the following two decades were about wings and spoilers, some might argue to the detriment of style and appearance. Time has moved on, both the Miura and E-Type, as beautiful as they are, have newer rivals from their own makers. Modern materials and designs have done the unthinkable, dislodging what was for so many decades the most beautiful cars ever made.

Mercedes-AMG GT

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a breathtaking Gran Turismo with an AMG 4.0-litre V8 Biturbo engine that only its two GT siblings can surpass: the AMG GT C and the AMG GT R take AMG Driving Performance to a new level. The car combines a thrilling V8 feeling with astonishing everyday practicality, according to the Mercedes Benz website.

Mercedes-AMG GT, a proper fire-breathing coupe with enough grunt from its twin-turbocharged 4-liter V8 to hit 60 mph in under 4-seconds and 190 mph flat-out. From every angle, its fastback sport coupe profile looks stunning, in our opinion better than even the GT-R Black and roadster options. A case of less is more, with no wings interfering with the AMG GT's clean lines, this is the best looking AMG in the current line-up.

Lamborghini Huracán Performante

According to the Lamborghini website, the Huracán Performante has reworked the concept of super sports cars and taken the notion of performance to levels never seen before. The vehicle has been re-engineered in its entirety, as regards its weight, engine power, chassis, and above all by introducing an innovative system of active aerodynamics: ALA. The use of the awarded Forged Composites®, a shapable forged carbon fiber material patented by Automobili Lamborghini, is a really nice touch and it contributes to making the vehicle even lighter in weight. Besides its extraordinary technological properties, it also conveys a new idea of beauty.

The car has been completely updated, improving the engine, increasing the performance of the steering and suspension, using ultra-lightweight materials, and introducing an innovative active aerodynamic system in order to improve the performance level and driving experience.

Regarding its exterior design, all the new features of the Huracán Performante express performance. The front and rear spoilers made entirely of Forged Composites®, enable the aerodynamics to be actively exploited to achieve maximum performance by increasing or decreasing the downforce as required. The new, even lighter wheel rims hold the new Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, providing incredible grip.

Jaguar F-Type

Almost 40 years after the E-type vacated its position as the most beautiful production car ever, Jaguar was back with a true successor in both name and appearance, the F-Type might have been a long time in coming, but the wait was worth it.

Like its predecessor, available as either coupe or roadster, each promising different levels of interaction with what is surely the most vocally diverse V8 production engine to date. Even in the prettier coupe the F-Type R's 567 HP supercharged V8 shouts, bellows, and bangs on the overrun, modern and soundproof the F-Type might be, but that engine just demands gearheads' attention.

Aston Martin DB9

The Aston Martin DB9 is a British grand tourer first shown by Aston Martin at the 2003 Frankfurt Auto Show. Available both in coupé and a convertible body style, the latter being known as the Volante, the DB9 was the successor of the DB7. It was the first model built at Aston Martin's Gaydon facility.

The DB9, originally designed by Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker, has aluminum construction. The chassis is the Ford-developed VH platform whilst the engine is the 5.9-liter V12 from the Vanquish. The 2013 model year facelift saw many improvements to the design, the engine, and the overall driving experience.

Aston Martin Racing adapted the DB9 for sports car racing, producing the DBR9 for FIA GT1 and the DBRS9 for FIA GT3. These two cars are modified DB9 models adapted for motorsport; the interior features are removed and the aluminum body panels are replaced by carbon fiber panels. Additionally, the engine has been tweaked in both cars to produce more horsepower and torque.

Ford GT40 Mk.1

American funding, British design, and a generous portion of time and expertise from Carroll Shelby transformed a Lola Mk6-based racer into what would become one of the most successful Le Man's racing cars of all time. The GT40 dates back to Ford's Advanced vehicle facility outside of London.

Early production types I-III were all built in the UK, racing development and modification taking place at Dearborn, Michigan, where later models would be designed and produced. Despite two separate attempts to build a better Ford GT, the original in our opinion still holds sway in the looks department, even if the newer cars are quicker and easier to drive.

Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

The first 8C debuted as a concept in 2003. But the final production model didn't show up in Europe until 2007. It still had the same shapely body lines, dramatic triangular grille, and rounded taillights. Only, the road-going 8C bore new wheels, updated Xenon headlights, and a rear-hinged hood.

Hiding under the rear-hinged hood was a Ferrari-sourced 4.7-liter V8 good for 444 horsepower (331 kilowatts) and 354 pound-feet (480 Newton-meters) of torque. With its standard six-speed transaxle gearbox, the 8C Competizione could sprint to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in just 4.2 seconds, and on to an official top speed of 181 mph (292 kmh).

BMW 507. (Photo: Hot Cars)

BMW 507

The BMW 507 is a roadster that was produced by BMW from 1956 to 1959. Initially intended to be exported to the United States at a rate of thousands per year, it ended up being too expensive, resulting in a total production figure of 252 cars and heavy financial losses for BMW.

The BMW 507 was conceived by U.S. automobile importer Max Hoffman who, in 1954, persuaded the BMW management to produce a roadster version of the BMW 501 and BMW 502 saloons to fill the gap between the expensive Mercedes-Benz 300SL and the cheap and underpowered Triumph and MG sports cars.

Arguably the most beautiful BMW of all time, nothing since has come close to either the levels of perfection in terms of build or the gorgeous lines that make it so collectible today. Produced over a four-year period with just 252 cars produced, the 507 is perhaps one of the greatest financial failures that today is worth millions.

Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster

Pagani's debut back in 1999 signaled the arrival of a new Italian supercar maker, based within a stone's throw of Ferrari's Modena headquarters. A new upstart carmaker with a flair for the unconventional would place Pagani and their debut Zonda model in good stead.

Built entirely from carbon fiber where every minute detail is perfectly crafted, each strand or matting of the wonder material lined up precisely with its neighbor, Pagani had tuned even the basic structure into an art form. Interiors, too, bearing more resemblance to a major art display than a car cockpit, a theme that even extends to Zonda's 6-liter V12 installation with the most complex and beautiful engine bay ever.

McLaren P1

The McLaren P1 is a limited-production mid-engine plug-in hybrid sports car produced by British automobile manufacturer McLaren Automotive. Debuted at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, sales of the P1 began in the United Kingdom in October 2013 and all 375 units were sold out by November.

It is considered by the automotive press to be the successor to the McLaren F1, utilizing hybrid power and Formula One technology, but does not have the same three-seat layout. It was later confirmed that the Speedtail served as the actual successor to the McLaren F1.

The P1 has a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive design that used a carbon-fiber monocoque and roof structure safety cage concept called MonoCage, which is a development of the MonoCell first used in the MP4-12C and then in subsequent models. Its main competitors are the LaFerrari and the 918 Spyder. They are all similar in specifications and performance, and in a race around the Silverstone circuit they were all within half a second of each other, the P1 finishing first at 58.24 seconds and the LaFerrari finishing last at 58.58 seconds; the 918 was in-between with 58.46 seconds.

Porsche 904 Carrera GTS

The Porsche 904 is an automobile that was produced by Porsche in Germany in 1964 and 1965. It was officially called Porsche Carrera GTS due to the same naming rights problem that required renaming the Porsche 901 to Porsche 911.

After having withdrawn from Formula One at the end of the 1962 season, Porsche focused again on sportscar racing. The 904 debuted late in 1963, for the 1964 racing season, as a successor to the 718, which had been introduced in 1957.
