U.S. Capitol riots: Oversea Vietnamese shares the situation after "a dark day in American history"
Around the U.S. Capitol, the largest concentration of power in America, everything was back to normal life. The UPS postman worked hard; the jogging girl dressed in the shortest and most comfortable clothes could still breathe steadily through the mask; residents slowly walked their dogs on the sidewalks; a few elderly people sat in front of the house to sunbathe; a bit away from Capitol Hill, homeless people gathered in the park to share cigarettes despite the fierce Covid-19 pandemic; tourists were leisurely visiting the historic marble buildings.
However, the biggest difference is easy to see, police and the National Guard armed with heavy weapons standing everywhere to ensure the security of lawmakers.

Thousands of Trump loyalists stormed the Capitol. Members of Congress hid under desks, stripped their identification pins from their lapels to avoid being attacked and escaped into secret passageways. Rioters ransacked the office of the House speaker. Flag-waving protesters smashed windows and assaulted police inside the nation’s iconic symbol of democracy.
The process of affirming the next president was halted by mob violence. It was already clear that Jan. 6, 2021, would go down in history as one of America’s ugliest days.
Their offices were breached. Papers flying everywhere. Protesters climbed into a chair that not long before Vice President Mike Pence was chairing a meeting to oppose the results of the Arizona election. They casually put their feet up on the desk of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and then smiled. The windows are smashed. The main door was knocked over.

Protesters with the US flag and MAGA slogan (Make America Great Again) crowded in front of the U.S. Capitol. Washington D.C. Capital and Virginia issued a curfew. Vietnamese-Americans like me could not go to the streets. National guards are sent while blood has been shed. A shot woman was taken to an ambulance and then died on the brick floor of the most sacred building in this great country.
Extremists say it was a coup, toppling the government and the ignition of provocations about the stolen election of President Donald Trump and his close associates that took place over the past 60 days with the call to the Capitol in a speech that burned in the crowd a few minutes ago.
Seeing what's happening on TV, I thought I was watching the famous Hollywood series: Olympus Has Fallen and Angel Has Fallen (the Fall of the White House) or the riots in Asia, Eastern Europe or some Africa years ago when people protested, took over government, not in America.

On the sides of the U.S Capitol, the National Guard was holding a gun, standing and scattering to make a shield. Police cars flashing lights and honking everywhere. On the West side where I was standing, the guards and police watched workers installing steel fences up to 7ft (about 2.13m) high intending to cover the Capitol Hill campus, to protect the security of the parliament and the oath of Mr. Joe Biden over the next two weeks.
Meanwhile, many reporters with massive machines appeared everywhere. The white man on a bicycle passed by and shouted "Donald Trump". Another young man being white and fat without mask, holding the "Trump 2020" flag - was being interviewed. There was one thing he still knew for sure: Donald Trump is the winner and the 2020 election has been cheated.
Several South American women standing at the corner and waving flags "Keep America Great" shouted the name of their favorite president amid behaviors of others.

The girl standing near me laughed through the thick mask. I can't understand why they had such great energy and belief. Until now, after the Congress has certified Mr. Joe Biden as the next president and Trump is likely to transfer power, these people are still bracing for conspiracy theories.
It cannot denied that the American historians will evaluate the merits, crimes, achievements as well as destruction that President Donald Trump left behind for future generations.

I walked back to my car when the flow of people was getting more and more crowded. It is a fact that sunshine always appears after the rain. Now, people of Washington D.C. can be put at ease after moments of chaos.
Goodbye to the volatile 2020. Goodbye, President Donald Trump. Welcome President Joe Biden. Spring will come in the next two months and I believe that joy and peace will return to this country, where I spent most of my brightest youth for an American dream.
