Vietnam is now Mexico's 10th largest trading partner globally, surpassing traditional partners such as Spain, India, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom.

Speaking at the 79th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2nd, 1945 - September 2nd, 2023) hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico on September 12th, Fernando Gonzalez Saiffe, director general for Asia-Pacific at the Mexican Foreign Ministry, affirmed that this is a solid foundation for both countries to elevate their relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership in the future.

Congratulating the Vietnamese people on the 79th anniversary of National Day, Saiffe noted the shared history of struggle, common challenges in combating corruption, and mutual respect for multilateralism that bind Vietnam and Mexico.

Fernando Gonzalez Saiffe, a diplomat with previous experience at the Mexican Embassy in Vietnam, assessed that these viewpoints are vividly reflected in the famous saying 'make more friends, fewer enemies' by former General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, as well as Vietnam's unique 'bamboo diplomacy' characterized by its firmness, resilience, yet flexibility and adaptability.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Van Hai reviewed the glorious journey of the Vietnamese people over the past 79 years of nation-building and defense, emphasizing Vietnam's remarkable efforts and outstanding achievements in foreign affairs, politics, and economics on the path of international integration and national development.

Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Van Hai stressed that throughout its struggle for national independence and development, Vietnam has received invaluable support and assistance from the international community, including Mexico. This positive relationship has been increasingly expanded across various fields, from politics and economics to cultural diplomacy, and is reflected in the mutual support at international forums such as the United Nations, and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

Furthermore, Vietnam and Mexico continue to maintain regular and effective consultation mechanisms, including political consultations between the two foreign ministries.

Regarding bilateral trade, the Ambassador noted that Mexico is now Vietnam's second-largest trading partner in Latin America, while Vietnam is also Mexico's second-largest trading partner in ASEAN. Bilateral trade is developing strongly as both countries are members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

For Nguyen Huu Dong, president of the Vietnamese community in Mexico, the National Day has always been one of the most anticipated events for him in the over 30 years since he settled in Mexico, as it is an opportunity for him to meet with the entire community, speak in his native language, and hear the latest news about his homeland.
