Comprehensive measures rolled out to ensure children's safety against Covid-19 at school

With the Ministry of Health's guidance, the Ministry of Education and Training and localities have made plans, scenarios, roadmaps, implemented rehearsals, and prepared necessary conditions to get children back to school safely, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son told National Assembly deputies on February 25.

The minister underlined that bringing children back to school is a must and an obvious trend. As of 11 am on February 25, 88.25 percent of children had returned to school for face-to-face learning, he noted. Training has been provided to teachers and parents to respond to Covid-19 infections at schools. The minister said that localities can flexibly adjust the time of concluding the 2021-2022 academic year.

As part of efforts to adapt to the situation, right before the Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival, 55 out of 63 localities nationwide had plans allowing pre-school children to return to school, while 57 allowed primary students back to school and 59 allowed high schools to resumed in-person classes.

Grassroots reports showed that only 18 percent of students were infected with Covid-19 at schools, and the majority contracted the virus at home, he said, stressing that allowing children to return to school is a proper policy.

Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said that the Prime Minister has allowed the Ministry of Health to buy nearly 22 million doses of Pfizer vaccine for the group, which is expected to arrive in Vietnam before April 30. The ministry has guided local health care facilities on safe vaccination among children. As of February 25, 99 percent of children aged from 12-17 had got at least one dose and 94 percent had two.

Quang Ninh offers safe tourism in new normal condition

The tourism sector in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh, home to the iconic UNESCO-recognised World Heritage Site Ha Long Bay, is launching a series of measures to operate in a new normal condition, ensuring safety for visitors, according to local authorities.

The move is in response to the Government’s approval of reopening tourism activities in such conditions starting from March 15 after a two-year hiatus because of Covid-19. Quang Ninh is targeting 9.5 million visitors in 2022.

Right from the beginning of 2022, Quang Ninh opened a number of tourist attractions that meet the requirements and are labeled as safe, especially spiritual sites, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors.

At accommodation service establishments in Quang Ninh, room occupancy has begun to increase again. Currently, the province has nearly 700 tourism businesses meeting the provincial safety criteria for epidemic prevention and control.

Since the latest wave that hit the country back in late April, more than 3.11 million cases have been confirmed, with over 2.35 million of them have since recovered. The nation’s death toll caused by Covid-19 now stands at 39,962, or 1.3 % of total cases.

The average number of new cases in the country over the past seven days has been 57,160 a day, while the national death rate has been an average of 86 a day.

To date, a total of 192.86 million Covid-19 vaccine shots have been administered nationwide, including more than 176.1 million for people 18 years and older. Recent times have seen the country continue to detect a growing number of new Covid-19 infections with a record figure of over 57,000 per day.
