The 78th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of India was organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations in collaboration with the Vietnam-India Friendship Association on August 14th.

According to Madan Mohan Sethi, consul general of India in Ho Chi Minh City, over the past 78 years, since gaining independence, India has made significant progress in all fields, from economics to culture, politics, society and increasingly asserted its influence in the international arena.

The Indian economy has grown strongly, with achievements in the fields of agriculture, industry such as automobiles, textiles, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, renewable energy. With favorable policies and an improved business environment, India has become more attractive to investors.

Emphasizing the deep and historical relationship between Vietnam and India, Madan Mohan Sethi said that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's recent visit to India has deepened the partnership between the two countries.

The Joint Statement on Strengthening the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has aimed at higher political-strategic trust, deeper defense-security cooperation, more substantive and effective economic-trade-investment cooperation, broader cooperation in science-technology, closer cultural-tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. He believes that in the coming time, meaningful activities between the two countries will continue to be promoted, contributing to strengthening the partnership between India and Vietnam.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972, and especially since the elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016, the Vietnam-India relationship has achieved many significant milestones. Strategic trust has been continuously strengthened through close cooperation among sectors, localities, and frequent exchanges between high-ranking leaders. At the local level, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City throughout various periods have always shown great affection and deep interest in the bilateral friendship between Vietnam and India.

Huynh Thanh Lap, president of the Vietnam-India Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City, expressed his desire to continue collaborating with the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, INCHAM, to organize more people-to-people diplomatic events.

Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to collaborate with the Consulate General to organize the annual International Yoga Day, enhance connections and promote further cooperation between yoga institutions of the two countries, and exchange bilaterally on traditional medicine, including medicinal plants. Moreover, there will be cultural exchanges and cooperation in external information, spreading the beautiful image and cultural essence of Vietnam to India, contributing to enhancing the Vietnam-India friendship.

At the event, the delegates participated in a traditional Indian lamp-lighting ritual, symbolizing wishes for peace and happiness for all. They also visited the Bodhi tree planted by Indian President Ramaswamy Venkataraman in the grounds of the Ho Chi Minh Museum in 1991.

On this occasion, the Vietnam-India Friendship Association of the Ho Chi Minh City Museum was launched.
