The Vietnam Fatherland Front on July 13 announced it had raised VND 115 billion from the text message campaign calling for donations to the fight against Covid-19.
“Forty days since the text message campaign was launched, the Vietnam Fatherland Front has received 2.5 million messages donating total money of VND115 billion. All of the donation will be transferred to the Government’s vaccine fund,” Chien said.
Transparency will be ensured during the transfer process, he said, committing equal access to vaccine and supervision of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and member agencies in money distribution.
In early June 2021, the text message campaign was launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, and the Ministry of Information and Communications to call for donation for the Covid fight in Vietnam.

“Vietnam has so far had enough financial resources to purchase 150 million vaccine doses for the nation-wide vaccination campaign,” Chien said, referring to VND 115 billion from the text message campaign, more than VND8 trillion from the Government’s Covid vaccine fund and other sources from State budget.
However, he said accessing vaccine sources was difficult due to vaccine scarcity. In order to speed up accessing vaccine sources, under the direction of the Politburo, the Government has proposed three solutions: negotiating to buy and import vaccines; importing technology for domestic vaccine production and continuing researching and self-producing "made in Vietnam" vaccines.
On behalf of the fundraising campaign organizers, Chien sent gratitude to donors, businesses, Vietnamese people living at home and abroad, as well as foreigners living in Vietnam for joining hands and making contribution.

Amid the complicated development of the pandemic, Chien said prevention and control work still needed huge financial resources.
He also said he hoped the Vietnam Fatherland Front would continue to receive support of donors in fundraising campaigns.
Supporters can make donations by texting ‘COVID NK” to 1408. N is any number between 1 and 2,000. K stands for unit of thousands of Vietnam dong. For example, if you want to donate VND 200,000, please send a message: ‘COVID 200K’ to 1408. The campaign will receive donations until August 2. |
Along with the text message campaign of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, a national Covid vaccine fund made debut in early June to mobilize social resources for the purchase and import of vaccines as well as for research, development and production of domestic vaccines.
As of 5pm on July 13, the fund received VND8.09 trillion.

Part of money raised in these campaigns will be used to purchase vaccines, helping Vietnam achieve herd immunity.
It targets that at least 50% of people aged 18 and above to be vaccinated against Covid-19 in 2021, and more than 70% of the population will get the shots by the end of the first quarter next year.
