Always proud of being a Vietnamese

Ms. Ngo Pham Tran arrived in Taiwan in 1997. After graduation, she started to work at the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan with the responsibility of supporting foreign workers including Vietnamese in Taiwan.

Witnessing difficulties that Vietnamese people in Taiwan encounter in adapting to new lives, Tran published two Vietnamese - Chinese bilingual magazines which provide information about job opportunities for Vietnamese students in Taiwan as well as the Taiwanese government’s welfare policies towards foreign workers.

In 2015, Tran established the website "Jobs Taiwan" also supplying information about job opportunities for Vietnamese students in Taiwan as well as Vietnamese students preparing to come to Taiwan.

Ngo Pham Tran is currently the President of Taiwan- Vietnam Economic Cultural and Educational Development Association.

There are as many as 300,000 Vietnamese people living, working and studying in Taiwan, in which 200,000 are Vietnamese brides, Tran said, while expressing her gladness that Vietnamese begins to be taught for the 1st and 2nd graders here.

Seeking and training talents for Vietnam

Each year, Tran leads the Taiwan- Vietnam Economic Cultural and Educational Development Association to organize about 20 activities to step up cooperation on trade, investment, education and culture between Vietnam and Taiwan.

In terms of education, Tran has introduced many scholarship programs of Taiwan to Vietnamese students, assisted 519 students from Vietnam’s Dong Thap province to study at Minghsin University of Science and Technology and partnered with Saigon University in teaching Chinese language.

“As a lecturer of the National Taiwan Normal University, I gain understanding about Taiwan’s advanced educational programs, hence, I would like to partly contribute to reforming Vietnamese education system”, Tran said, adding that Horizon International Languages School plans to train Vietnamese undergraduates according to the demands of Taiwanese enterprises that are investing in the country.

Regarding the health field, Ngo Pham Tran serves as a bridge for many medical cooperation programs between the Ministry of Health of Taiwan, Taipei Hospital, Taoyuan Hospital and hospitals in Vietnam like Thong Nhat, Thu Duc and Children's Hospital 1.

Concerning the trade field, Tran and the B2B Association help to introduce Vietnamese products to the Taiwan market and vice versa. In culture, they hold cultural exchange programs to offer Taiwan people a closer insight into the people and country of Vietnam.

Hoping to build a strong and solidary Vietnamese community in Taiwan

“The Vietnamese community in Taiwan is still small and lives scattered in many places. I hope that there will be more Vietnamese professors, doctors and influencers to Taiwan to spread messages about the homeland in order to strengthen solidarity and connectivity within the community”, Tran said.

With the hope to build a strong and solidary Vietnamese community, Tran will join hands with the Vietnamese businesswomen Club in Taiwan to aid people to get knowledge on how to operate enterprises as well as do business according to the 5.0 model, etc.

Besides, Tran said she sets lots of hope towards the second-generation children born and raised in Taiwan, emphasizing that wants to do more things for them.
