Amidst the complicated development of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese community in Macau (China) has supported each other to surmount the difficulties, according to the World & Vietnam report.

The Vietnamese Association in Macau made its debut in November 2020. It was licensed for operation by the Macau Special Administrative Region. The Association’s motto is upholding the spirit of solidarity and mutual support.

Le Thi Lan, 50, from Thanh Hoa province, has worked as a housekeeper in Macau since 2015. She suddenly died on February 4, 2021, at the host's house.

After learning the news, the Vietnamese Association in Macau cooperated with her family and the police to do the necessary procedures. Besides, it supported Lan’s family MOP 61,320 ($7,658).

Nguyen Thi Nhip, 56, from Hai Duong province, has worked in Macau for three years. She was hospitalized on January 5 night and diagnosed with end-stage cervical cancer. She died on January 8 at the San Ding Macau Hospital. The Vietnamese Association aided her family MOP 94.580 ($11,813).

Besides, the Association has also provided support for many other Vietnamese ex-pats getting sick or having accidents.

There are currently about 2,000 Vietnamese people in Macau losing their jobs due to the Covid-19 epidemic. The Association, in collaboration with benefactors, has gifted food, rice and 300 MOP ($37) for each disadvantaged person.

In addition, the Association has always turned its hearts to the homeland. It financially supported flood victims in the Central region and pandemic-hit people in Hai Duong province.

After only 4 months of establishment, the total amount of money raised by the Association for charity has mounted to MOP 254,020 ($31,727).

Apart from charitable activities, the Association has also organized sports tournaments aiming to enhance solidarity among Vietnamese people in Macau.

It can be said that the Vietnamese Association in Macau has made significant contributions to the joint activities of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong and Macau, partly supporting the protection of citizens, as well as contributing to community development.

Ms. Dinh Thi Ngoc, Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Macau said that in the time ahead, it would organize activities to introduce the image of the country, people and culture of Vietnam to Macau people, at the same time, cooperating with government organizations to propagate about the host country’s laws.

There have been more than 22,000 people from Vietnam or with Vietnamese origin living in Macao Special Administrative Region. They have always received enthusiastic assistance from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macao. Vietnamese workers in Macao are highly appreciated for their good ethics and compliance with the local laws.
