Vietnamese community in Higashikawa (Japan) welcomes Lunar New Year

Overseas Vietnamese community in Higashikawa, Hokkaido (Japan) has held a ceremony to welcome the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival, a Government official and NHK national television reported.

About 100 Vietnamese students and local residents got together to celebrate the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

Welcoming the Lunar New Year, the Vietnamese community in Higashikawa organised ceremony to sing the national anthem and perform many cultural shows.

They were treated to art performances, traditional dishes, Banh Chung (square glutinous rice cake), Nem (spring roll).

Vietnamese students and local people also took part in folk games such as con ball throwing and bamboo dancing.

The event has helped people in Higashikawa understand better about the Vietnamese culture./.
