Event-goers at the United Nations International Bazaar were impressed by Vietnamese handicrafts and traditional cuisine, which included fried spring rolls (nem ran), banh mi, pork rolls, and iced milk coffee.

RoK Celebrates Vietnam Day

The 2024 United Nations (UN) International Culinary and Cultural Fair (UN International Bazaar), hosted by the Club for Spouses of Representatives of UN Member States, was held on June 5 at the UN headquarters in New York. The event features abou 50 booths selling handicraft products and traditional foods from UN member countries.

According to Vietnam News Agency correspondents in New York, the opening ceremony of the fair was attended by President of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly Dennis Francis and his wife, the UN Secretariat, ambassadors, and representatives and family members of the Delegations.

Following the annual tradition, Vietnam set up two booths at the fair. The handicraft counter named "Hand-made in Viet Nam" draws special attention from international guests, with various sophisticated items made of ceramic, lacquer, brocade, and silk reflecting the characteristics of Vietnamese culture.

Besides, the "Vietnamese Kitchen" booth, which served fried spring rolls, pork rolls, banh mi, and iced milk coffee, left a deep impression and got many positive reviews from fair attendees.

This year's Vietnamese booths receive President of the UN General Assembly Dennis Francis and his wife for a visit. After trying traditional Vietnamese food, the President expressed his hope to visit Vietnam in the coming time to experience more of the country's culture and cuisine.

At the end of the event, Vietnam was one of the countries that contributed the most to the event organizers' charity fund.

The Permanent Mission of Vietnam has participated in the meaningful cultural diplomacy event to spread the beauty of the country and people of Vietnam ​​to the international community and the diplomatic missions at the UN headquarters. In addition, it contributes to tightening the solidarity and connections among members of the Club for Spouses of Representatives of UN Member States and members of Vietnamese agencies in New York.

The UN International Bazaar is organized annually by the Club for Spouses of Representatives of UN Member States to promote exchanges, strengthening ties among member countries, and raising funds to support humanitarian activities and projects. The event’s organizers said that there were more than 1,000 event-goers to visit, buy souvenirs and enjoy food this year.
