Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang delivered a speech at "Xuan Que Huong" (Homeland Spring), an event in Paris on Jan. 27.

The Vietnam Embassy to France held an event to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year both in-person and online on Jan. 27.

The event welcomed the Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang and his wife, Ambassador - Head of the Vietnamese Permanent Delegation to UNESCO Le Thi Hong Van, officials of the embassy and other agencies, representatives of Vietnamese associations in France and French partners.

The in-person event was connected with many Vietnamese associations and student associations in France and Portugal.

It created a joyful and warm atmosphere, bringing people closer together to feel the traditional Tet flavor and the connection among Vietnamese people living far from their homeland.

Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang emphasized the meaning of the nation's traditional Tet, which is an occasion for family reunion.

Due to the pandemic, the Vietnamese community in France cannot organize many activities to celebrate the New Year according to Vietnamese customs. However, the meaning of Tet will be preserved by every family and every community, even if they live far from the homeland.

The ambassador expressed his sympathy for the difficulties that the overseas have to deal with because of the pandemic.

He was proud that the Vietnamese community in France had good integration with the host country but still preserved Vietnam's cultural identity and traditions. The community constantly makes efforts to enhance its strength and solidarity.

The overseas community has contributed to the nation's past independence defense, and the current construction and development. They have conducted diverse forms of support for the prevention of Covid-19 in Vietnam.

The embassy held a ceremony to award the Prime Minister's Certificates of Merit to three individuals of the Vietnamese Association in France for their outstanding achievements.

The ambassador expressed his deep gratitude to French partners who attended the event, showing their strong support for the Vietnamese Embassy and the homeland under any circumstances.

The ambassador reviewed outstanding achievements in the country's socio-economic development in the past year, especially in the prevention of Covid-19.

Vietnam's vaccination rate reached over 80% after only four months of implementation. Economic indicators showed positive signs. The macro-economy stayed stable, inflation remained low, economic growth reached 2.5%, foreign investment increased by 10%.

Regarding Vietnam-France relations, 2021 marked a new milestone in strengthening relations between the two countries, notably in the field of healthcare. Effective pandemic prevention goes hand in hand with economic recovery.

The first official visit to France and Europe by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in November 2021 brought bilateral relations to a new height.

Hoping for prosperity in the Year of the Tiger both in terms of Vietnam's socio-economic development and Vietnam-France's relations, ambassador Dinh Toan Thang sent his best new year wishes to the Vietnamese community in France and Portugal and French partners.

The embassy also held a ceremony to award the Prime Minister's Certificates of Merit to three individuals of the Vietnamese Association in France for their outstanding achievements in strengthening and developing the overseas community in France from 2016 to 2021. Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese were also granted to collectives and individuals who made extraordinary achievements in pandemic prevention.

Representatives of Vietnamese associations were informed about the Party and State's concern for the overseas community. They affirmed their sentiment towards the homeland and expressed their wish that the country would soon recover from the pandemic develop.

In a warm and joyful atmosphere, the participants enjoyed cultural art performances by the Vietnam Cultural Center and Vietnamese artists in France. At the end of the event, ambassador Hong Van, ambassador Thang, and his wife raised the glass to welcome the Year of Tiger with new hopes.
