Vietnamese Vessel Sails to Singapore for Friendly Visit

The trip’s success will contribute to further strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the Vietnamese and Singaporean navies.

Sailing Ship 286-Le Quy Don of the Vietnam Naval Academy left the Nha Trang military port in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa on October 4, beginning its journey to Singapore for a friendly visit marking the 50th anniversary of the countries’ diplomatic relations (1973-2023) and 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership (2013-2023), VNA reported.

The journey itself is designated as a training session for trainees to practice sea navigation during long-distance voyages, use weapons and equipment, and deal with real-life situations, among other activities.

As planned, the Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Political Commissar of the Vietnam Naval Academy Colonel Bui Duy Thong, will visit the Singapore Navy Command; host a party and musical event on board, engage in cultural and sports exchanges with the Singapore Navy, and tour historical and cultural landmarks in Singapore.

This trip aims to further enhance the friendship, cooperation, mutual understanding, and trust between the military and naval forces of Vietnam and Singapore, and the two navies’ ability to coordinate in addressing common maritime security challenges, serving the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region.

According to President of Vietnam Naval Academy Rear Admiral Nguyen Van Lam, this is the fifth time that Sailing Vessel 286 - Le Quy Don and the academy’s mission have visited and had an exchange with regional navies and conducted sea training.

Rear Admiral Nguyen Van Lam added that the voyage also offers an opportunity to the academy’s cadres and cadets to raise their stance, capabilities, and skills to grasp situations and handle circumstances at sea, contributing to enhancing its training quality to meet task requirements in the new situation.

Previously, the working group organized an incense-offering ceremony to commemorate the Monument of Hung Dao Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan at Bach Dang Park (Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa province).

In 2019, The vessel, coded HQ-286 Le Quy Don, with naval officers, sailors, and last-year students from the Vietnam Naval Academy onboard also visited Singapore.

The sailing ship was designed by Poland’s Choren Design & Consulting and built by Marine Projects in 2014. The ship was launched on June 1, 2015.
