Vietnamese Women in Japan Host Discussion on Mental Health

The program aims to provide mental health counseling, to exchange discussions supporting the improvement of cultural and spiritual life for the Vietnamese community in Japan.

Speaking at the event, Kohara Junko, representative of the Higashi Osaka City government, hopes to connect the Vietnamese community in Japan, adding that the city will make efforts to support the living conditions of the Vietnamese community, especially women.
On the other hand, Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union Ton Ngoc Hanh expressed her joy that the Vietnamese community in Japan is growing stronger, especially the women's associations and unions.
Hanh also said that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union will coordinate to organize more seminars and forums in the coming time. Vietnamese women's community in Japan can utilize these events to have more channels to communicate, to exchange information and experiences among members.
Le Thuong, Vice President of the Vietnamese Women's Association of Kansai region, said that the youth, especially young ladies, after graduating from high school (18 years old), go to Japan to study or work as interns or export labor. In some cases, they lack knowledge about life, reproductive health and sexual relationships thatl could lead to unwanted pregnancies and domestic violence.

She also noted that the number of Vietnamese women in Japan is large and diverse, and many places do not have their own women's organizations. In some places, organizations have not gathered many members, and are only concentrated in areas with a large Vietnamese population and some women who are relatively economically stable.
Organizational development is still slow, she said, some women's organizations are established spontaneously. They are not systematic, without guidance or support from the Homeland.
Vice President of the Vietnamese Women's Association of the Kansai region Le Thuong hopes to have more training programs for women in the unions for knowledge improvement and better preparation for living abroad.
