What keywords dominate Vietnamese Internet searching in 2020?

Google has recently published the list of the most searched keywords by country including Vietnam.

The list is divided by categories such as event, character, song, movie, and news. This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Google adds a number of categories such as Covid-19, online learning, Online, etc, Zing News reported.

In the category of "new outstanding keywords", VNedu, OLM, SMAS, Zoom, Coronavirus are among the top 10. VNedu, OLM, SMAS, and Zoom are the applications and platforms for learning and working remotely during the social distancing time.

Itaewon Class, US Presidential Election also enter the top most searched keywords in Vietnam.

Regarding the news category, Vietnamese people pay attention to the Covid-19 pandemic, major local criminal cases, natural disasters especially storm no.9 Molave in the central region, and Three Gorges Dam in China.

iPhone continues to enter the hot keyword list of Google as annual.

In the newly-added "Online" category, Google lists several keywords such as Medical declaration, Online werewolf, Online book fair, or Online supermarket. During the social distancing time, daily activities are shifted online, hence, the aforementioned keywords enter the top search are understandable.

In the "Covid-19" category, Vietnamese browsers are interested in Corona Symptoms, Ministry of Health, Wuhan, Ghen Co Vy, N95 Mask, and Medical Declaration.

The most searched films include Itaewon Class, Crash Landing on You, Go Ahead, Parasite, Blind Shaman, "Mắt biếc" (Dreamy Eyes), "Ròm" and "Tiệc Trăng Máu" (Blood Moon Party), etc.

Regarding the song category, Anh Thanh Nien" (The Young Man), "Hoa No Khong Mau" (Colorless Blooming Flowers) are included among the most searched keywords.

Concerning the "where" category, the keywords mentioned consist of "where to buy medical masks", "where is Vinh Phuc", "where is Wuhan" and where to test Covid-19.

In May, post social distancing period, "beach" was Vietnam's most searched keyword.

Vietnamese people prioritized inbound travel, especially to the seas or places with cool weather. Google’s searches for domestic travel to major tourist sites such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Da Lat, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Hue, Quy Nhon take up the largest proportion, which increased by 85 percent compared with the same period last year.

Vietnamese searching demand for destinations in the Asia-Pacific area dwindled by 8.6 percent compared to the same time last year, according to Google Asia-Pacific. Border closures and COVID-19 pandemic concerns were probably to blame for the downward trend.

Google Search trends act as a cultural barometer, revealing what news, sports, and other events captured the nation's interest over the past year.

Around 64 million users, or over half the country's population, are online.
