The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak in coordination with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK) deployed project activities to support the implementation of effective and sustainable interventions to prevent and combat child drowning in Dak Lak province in the 2024-2025 period.

Accordingly, in Decision 1575/QD-UBND of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee approved by the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, this project will be implemented until December 2025, in the communes of Ea Kar district and Cu M'gar district with a total aid value of about more than VND 3.4 billion (equivalent to USD 147,565); 100% of the funding is sponsored by CTFK and managed and implemented by the project owner.

In this phase, the project will focus on organizing communication activities on child drowning prevention and control held annually in the locality. Management staff, focal points of relevant departments, branches and units in the province and districts with intervention projects will be enhanced in capacity on management, assessment and communication on child drowning prevention and control.

The project aims to have at least 4,000 children aged 6-15 in communes of Ea Kar and Cu M'gar districts learn safe swimming. Teaching activities implemented at the commune level are periodically and regularly monitored by the provincial and district levels.

In the 2019-2022 period, the project to support the implementation of effective and sustainable interventions on drowning prevention in Ea Kar and Cu M'Gar districts, sponsored by CTFK with a total budget of more than VND 4.6 billion (USD 187,220), has helped children feel confident when approaching the water environment or how to prevent drowning, reducing water injury accidents in residential areas.

More than 1,000 students and parents in the area have participated in raising risk awareness and measures to ensure safety against child drowning; 2,750 people with children under 6 years old, preschool teachers have been trained in measures to prevent drowning to limit the drowning risks in children; 4,200 children have been trained in water safety knowledge.
