According to excerpts from memoirs of former national security adviser, John Bolton, named "The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir", which is scheduled to be published on June 23, Bolton said that President Trump asked Chinese leaders to help win the re-election for the presidency in 2020, Reuters reported.

Excerpts published by the Washington Post, New York Times and Wall Street Journal on June 17.

"It is very difficult for me to identify any important decisions of Mr. Trump during my tenure at the White House without being dominated by re-election calculations," Bolton wrote in a memoir about the US President, who will re-run in the race to the White House in 2020 with former Vice President Joe Biden.

In an important meeting with Xi last June, President Trump "moved the dialogue into the US presidential election in a brilliant way, referring to China's economic ability to influence on election campaigns and asked Xi to ensure that he will win", Bolton said in his memoirs.

Bolton also wrote that President Trump emphasized the importance of American farmers and that "and China's increasing purchasing power of soybeans and wheat" could affect US election results.

Besides, Bolton wrote that Trump repeatedly showed a willingness to ignore China's abuses of power. The US president once told President Xi Jinping about the Uyghur issue, and "that is exactly the right thing to do".

"I want to accurately record every word of Mr. Trump, but the government's review process for licensing books has decided otherwise," Bolton said. He also described many of the US president's moves, including intervening in lawsuits involving large companies in China and Turkey, said that it was "in fact a personal preference for those who dictatorial he liked".

The Trump administration filed a lawsuit against Bolton on June 16, after the White House National Security Council (NSC) determined that the current draft of Bolton's memoirs contained sections containing confidential national security information, "could cause serious or particularly serious damage to US security". Earlier on same day, Trump announced that former national security adviser Bolton could be prosecuted for revealing confidential information in his memoirs to the White House.

Simon and Schuster, the publisher of the book, on June 12 released a statement saying the book details Trump's views with China, Russia, Ukraine, North Korea, Iran, Britain, France and Germany and gave insight into the "inconsistent, indiscriminate decision-making process" of the US President. "This is a book that Donald Trump doesn't want you to read," wrote Simon and Schuster.

On June 16, the President Donald Trump administration sued former national security adviser John Bolton to prevent him from publishing an autobiography revealing "everything" about what happened in the White House.
