This was a major point highlighted by the Ambassador of Vietnam to Mexico Nguyen Hoanh Nam in his work visit to the state of Jalisco, Mexico, in late July.

During the visit, Ambassador Nam met with Governor of Jalisco Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, attended the workshop “Trade and investment opportunities in Vietnam – Mexico,” presented commemorative flowers at the President Ho Chi Minh statue in Guadalajara City International Friendship Center, and worked with the Honorary Consulate of Vietnam in Jalisco and some Vietnamese living in Jalisco.

According to the Embassy of Vietnam in Mexico, during the meeting with Jalisco Governor Ramírez, Ambassador Nam thanked the government and people of Jalisco for their heartful and sincere sentiments for Vietnam, particularly for their admiration for President Ho Chi Minh. The Ambassador also discussed Vietnam’s accomplishments in the economy and Covid prevention. Nam believed Jalisco had immense economic, trade, investment, scientific and technological, agricultural, educational, cultural and tourism potential. The ambassador hoped that the government and businesses in Jalisco would strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in various fields, especially within the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership of which both Vietnam and Mexico were active members.

Governor Ramírez expressed his admiration toward Vietnam’s accomplishments in political stabilization and socio-economic development in recent years, highlighting that both sides had great cooperation potential in agriculture, goods production and trade exchange and affirming that Jalisco was ready to strengthen friendship and cooperation with Vietnam in economy, trade and investment. Governor Ramírez also assigned the secretary of economic development to collaborate with the Embassy of Vietnam in Mexico to find opportunities for cooperation, including achieving agreements on strengthening the relationship between the two countries, especially between Jalisco and Vietnam. The governor hoped to visit Vietnam in the next year.

At the meeting with secretaries of economic development, home affairs, agriculture and culture, both parties exchanged information on the situation, potential and collaboration opportunities in Jalisco and Vietnam’s strong areas. Both sides also expressed the hope to connect government agencies in Jalisco and Vietnam to share cooperation opportunities.

During the visit, the Embassy of Vietnam in Mexico, the President of the Western Mexican Council for Foreign Trade and the President of the Western Mexico Chamber of Textile Industry co-chaired the business workshop “trade and investment opportunities in Vietnam and Mexico.” The workshop attracted over 20 businesses in various sectors such as textile, footwear, agriculture, pharmaceutical products, electronics and furniture.

At the workshop, participating Mexican businesses appreciated Vietnam’s development and potential and expressed their interest in cooperation with Vietnam in maintaining the production chain and supplying for the textile, footwear and furniture industries facing the Covid-19 pandemic. They hoped to strengthen cooperation between both parties to make use of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership to foster trade ties between Vietnam and Mexico.

Some businesses proposed cooperation in making products which both Vietnam and Mexico were strong about to export to North America, hoping to visit Vietnam when the situation was improved.

Jalisco state is Mexico’s second-largest economic, industrial and scientific-technological center and the cultural cradle of Tequila and Mariachi. Jalisco has immense potential in agricultural production, tourism and manufacturing.
