After a long period of being underestimated compared to cars originating from Thailand, Indonesia, cars imported to Vietnam from China are speeding up again in quantity and models.

According to data from the General Department of Customs, in the first month of 2021, businesses in Vietnam imported a total of 8,343 cars of all kinds, with a total turnover of 212.5 million USD. Compared to the same period of 2020, the volume of imported CBU cars increases by nearly 85%, while the turnover increases by over 76%.

In the first month of 2021, the number of cars imported from Thailand to Vietnam still holds the first position of cars imported to Vietnam with 4,341 vehicles, equivalent to 84.55 million USD. However, in second place, cars originating from China have exceeded the volume of cars imported from Indonesia.

Specifically, automobile businesses in Vietnam have imported 1,463 cars from China, most of which are passenger cars, trucks ... Meanwhile, cars imported from Indonesia reached 1,437. with the majority of passenger cars in the segment of small cars class A, common MPV 5 + 2 seats.

Thus, after a long time always ranked behind Indonesia in the volume of imported cars into Vietnam, Chinese cars have risen to break the dominance of the "Southeast Asian automobile empire" in penetrating the Vietnamese market. In the past 2-3 years, Chinese cars get the attention for their many new models such as the Brilliance V7 - the "Chinese BMW" and Beijing X7.

With an attractive selling price, cars originating in China have received a lot of attention from consumers, but at the same time, they also caused controversy about their quality, safety as well as after-sale service in Vietnam.

From the beginning of January 2021 to February 15, 2021, automobile businesses in Vietnam imported a total of 11,791 units, a total turnover of 280 million USD, an increase of 2,766 vehicles, and nearly 60 million USD compared to the same period in 2020. In particular, cars imported from China account for more than 2,000 vehicles.
