Phuong, who was born and raised in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City, has been living in Japan with her in-law family for years. Her two daughters are studying at a Japanese school.
In Japanese culture, students normally bring their own bentos for lunchtimes instead of eating out. Phuong, therefore, started to make the very first bentos herself 7 years ago when her fist daughter entered primary school.
“At first, I was struggling to make eye-catching bentos, and how to present the food creatively”, Phuong was quoted by VNE.

However, thanks to the help of her Japanese husband, Phuong could pick up some “bento secrets”. She also turned to the Internet to get more ideas of a creative, nutritious bento. As she grew more skillful in making bentos, Phuong’s lunch boxes started to look like portions made by a local Japanese. To date, having made thousands of bentos, Phuong’s bentos have won the hearts of her daughters.
"My mom's bentos look so gorgeous and mouth-watering. Plus, the taste is just awesome! The food taste like heaven in my mouth at every singly bite", her daughter exclaimed.

“I wake up at 4:30 am every day to prepare the lunch set for my daughters in happiness. My kids always start new days by asking ‘is this bento mine’ with an excited voice. This is what enthusiasts me to season each bento with more love and hope”, she said.
“No matter how far we go, whatever high-end food we try, our hearts always crave for the dishes our mother cook. My husband is still reminiscing of his childhood dishes prepared by my mother-in-law. I also want to create such a nice memory for my two children”, Phuong said.
Every now and then, Phuong makes bentos to present friends, colleagues, and neighbors. She also sent some to her relatives in Vietnam on special occasions.
