Foreign markets like Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Taiwan (China) together receiving more than 90 percent of Vietnamese workers have moved to welcome the employees again after a period of suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The foreign labour management department at the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs said that companies in the RoK and Taiwan now want to receive Vietnamese labourers to restore production.
According to the department, the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam began to grant visas for Vietnamese citizens as from July 29. The move took place as the Japanese Government is carrying out step-by-step measures to stimulate the economy, towards reopening international travel.
Accordingly, Vietnamese nationals in the country, using a direct flight between Vietnam and Japan, will be granted a visa to Japan for the purpose of labour, long-term stay for business, management; internal transfer of engineers, intellectuals and international profession; nursing; highly qualified labour; and some other activities.
After entering Japan, the labourers need to isolate themselves for 14 days at home in line with the host country’s regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control.
Labour export enterprises are responsible for instructing workers to strictly observe the Japan’s quarantine regulations.

Japan is considered a potential market for Vietnam’s labour export. Statistics from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare unveiled that as of late October 2019, Vietnamese labourers ranked second in number, only after Chinese, with 401,326 among nearly 1.66 million guest workers in Japan.
Meanwhile, the German Embassy in Vietnam was recently allowed to grant visas to Vietnamese citizens taking up apprenticeships in the European country. The German side earlier granted visas to Vietnamese trainee nurses.
Also, Taiwan has already welcomed a number of Vietnamese workers who were granted visas prior to the pandemic.
