A ceremony was held recently in Brazil to present a Friendship Order, a noble distinction of the Vietnamese State, to Mozambican Ambassador to Brazil Gamiliel Sepulveda Joao Munguambe, who previously served as Ambassador to Vietnam, for his contributions to bilateral relations.
At the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Nguyen Thi Kim Hoa spoke highly of Gamiliel’s contributions to Vietnam from January 2012 to April 2018.
During his six-year term, he helped bolster exchanges between delegations at all levels, including visits by Mozambican Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario to Vietnam in 2017 and President Truong Tan Sang to the African country a year earlier.
He also, at the time, called on Mozambique to support Vietnam in the election to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC), member of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the UN Human Rights Council, and the Executive Board of UNESCO.
The diplomat also contributed to the organisation of joint committees’ meetings and political consultations, and the signing of various bilateral agreements, among others.
Hoa also briefed participants about bilateral ties and cooperation prospects while voicing her belief that Gamiliel Sepulveda Joao Munguambe will further work to strengthen the Vietnam-Mozambique friendship.
She used the occasion to share Vietnam’s experience in fighting COVID-19.

For his part, Munguambe expressed his honor and pride when his association being awarded Vietnam’s noblest order for foreigners.
Such award represents further evidence of the sincere friendship that binds two countries, which this year celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations - the day the African nation declared its independence, he said.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Nguyen Phu Trong on June 24 sent a congratulatory message to Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi on the 45th anniversary of Mozambique’s Independence Day (June 25, 1975).
He also extended congratulations on the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-Mozambique diplomatic ties which were established on the same day.
Last year, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Central Committee had handed over 100 tonnes of rice to Mozambique in Maputo to aid people affected by tropical storms in the country’s central region./.
