With the message “Take if you need, give if you have”, the project, launched by the Da Lat City Red Cross Association on August 17, has been actively run in recent days in Da Lat. There are two main charitable sites set up in District 1, Da Lat city.

As reported by Yan TV, baskets of bread and hundreds of face masks will be distributed freely from 6 am every day. The project is scheduled to run in three months. The municipal Red Cross Association is planning to duplicate this model to other sites in the city.

Besides material support, the volunteers also spread the words on how to protect oneself from the novel virus, as well as proper ways to follow preventive measures.

Given the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic in the southern city of Da Lat and other localities in Vietnam as well, the free bread and face masks are the lifesavers of many poor residents whose jobs and lives have been disrupted.

A loaf of bread could fill up one’s stomach and energizes them through the day, meanwhile, a free face mask would mean a lot to the underprivileged people, especially when the face mask scarcity forces face mask price jump exponentially.

Across the country, there are also many volunteer programs dedicated to helping out needy people stricken by the COVID-19. A group of young people in Da Nang has recently called on everyone to provide food for city dwellers.

Dozens of makeshift “zero dong” food stores have been built up across Da Nang, the current COVID-19 hot spot in Vietnam, to help those needy people adversely affected by the pandemic.

Each makeshift grocery store has many ingredients on offer, ranging from rice, instant noodles, fish sauce, salt, sugar, cooking oil, eggs to an abundance of fresh fruits and veggies, such as squash, eggplant, papaya, sweet potato, etc. One person can get from 12 to 15 items to their liking.

All the charitable grocery stores will be active from August 14-24. Every day, the group will prepare enough ingredients for up to 100 needy people in each store.
