Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, a Vietnamese model, outclassed nearly 60 other contestants from around the globe and took home the title of Miss Grand International 2021 at the grand finale held in Thailand on December 4 evening.

After the evening gown segment, Tien, 23, with measurements of 83-62-92 qualified for the top 5 together with beauties from Puerto Rico, Brazil, Ecuador, and South Africa.

In the question and answer round, she was given a question: “With the current world situation there are many problems such as those related to human rights and economy, if you choose one person to discuss the problem in order to make the change, who will you choose and why?”

In her answer, Tien said she would talk to the woman who invented the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine. “That woman doesn't need money from her invention and I'm grateful for that. Sometimes you just need to work and don't care what you get.” Her answer received a big applause from judges and audiences in the question and answer round which is decisive in crowning a winner in a beauty pageant, according to VOV.

Get to know Miss Thuy Tien

According to the website Miss Grand International, the 23-year-old pageant winner is Final year/Hospitality Management/ Vatel Vietnam Investor and Co-founder of Adopt’ Vietnam. She grew up without her parents who divorced when she was only four years old. She grew up with her aunt and has a special interest in music and dancing.

At the press conference announcing Thuy Tien as the representative of Vietnam at the Miss Peace International 2021 contest in August, Thuy Tien shed tears when mentioning her family situation. Despite the lack of parental love, Thuy Tien is very energetic and determined to pursue high education.

Her introduction on the site says that her favorite quote has always been "Never regret. Keep moving forward." Thuy Tien is fluent in English and French and has hosted big events such as the red carpet at the semi-finals and final of Miss Vietnam 2020. Thuy Tien said she had studied Thai for a month before leaving for the contest as she planned to stay in Thailand for a year. She even won the jury’s heart by speaking a little Thai in a closed interview.

Thuy Tien's prize as Miss Grand International

After winning the crown of Miss Grand International 2021, Thuy Tien will have a year in Thailand to perform her tasks and responsibilities. Thuy Tien received a prize of US$40,000. She will be the ambassador of a series of famous brands in Thailand. She will also be in Indonesia next year to work for brands before handing the crown to the next year Miss Grand International.
