Interesting bridges spanning the Red River in Hanoi

In addition to the six bridges spanning the Red River,Hanoi capital is working on its new bridges named Tran Hung Dao, Tu Lien… in order to solve the traffic problem and promote the city’s socio-economic development.

Nhat Tan bridge

The Nhat Tan Bridge has a total length of 9.17 kilometres, of which the suspended span is 3.9 km (the part crossing the Red River accounts for 1.5 km) and the approaching span is 5.27 km. Photo: Nhan dan.

The bridge connects Dong Anh district with Tay Ho district, with the starting point from Phu Thuong ward, Tay Ho district to Vinh Ngoc commune, Dong Anh district. It took nearly six years to complete the bridge, from March 2009 to January 2015. Photo: Nhan dan.

Long Bien bridge

Long Bien Bridge is the first steel bridge spanning the Red River in Hanoi, connecting Hoan Kiem and Long Bien districts, built by the French in 1898-1902. Photo: Nhan dan.

Chuong Duong bridge

In 1985-1986, Chuong Duong Bridge was put into use, becoming an important and effective intersection of the capital. The original design was estimated to accommodate 7,000 vehicles a day but now the number of vehicles has tripled. Photo: Nhan dan.

Thanh Tri bridge

Thanh Tri Bridge was inaugurated and opened for traffic in February 2007. This is so far the largest bridge to span the Red River. The bridge starts at the intersection of National Highway 1A in Phap Van, Thanh Tri district, and ends at National Highway 5 in Sai Dong, Gia Lam. Photo: Nhan dan.

Vinh Tuy bridge

The construction of Vinh Tuy Bridge started in 2005. It took around 4 years until the bridge was officially opened for traffic on September 25, 2009, becoming one of the largest bridges in Vietnam at that time. The 19.25 metres wide bridge starts from the intersection between Tran Quang Khai - Nguyen Khoai - Minh Khai Street, ending at the intersection between Long Bien - Thach Ban Street. Photo: Nhan dan.

Thang Long bridge

Thang Long Bridge crosses the Red River, serving as the main road connecting Noi Bai International Airport with the capital city of Hanoi. Construction for this bridge began in 1974 and its inauguration was in 1985, making Thang Long a bridge with longest construction time in Hanoi. Photo: Nhan dan.
