The workshop marked the attendance of nearly 50 police delegates from the ministry’s functional units and police from the local units. In particular, the workshop saw the presence of foreign guests including Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Elsbeth Akkerman, Deputy Ambassador of New Zealand to Vietnam Joseph Mayhew, Liaison Officer of Australian Federal Police Bevan Moroney, First Secretary of the Laos Embassy in Vietnam Alita Douangkeomany, and Second Secretary of the Laos Embassy in Vietnam Vilayvone Bonatong.

Speaking at the opening of the Workshop, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Son affirmed that over the past time, gender equality and the advancement of women have received the attention and drastic implementation of all levels, sectors, and the whole society in Vietnam, thereby achieving the important results.

The Vietnam People's Public Security Forces have seriously carried out gender equality, strengthened the role of female police officers and soldiers as well as prevented violence against women. Many female police officers and soldiers have made important contributions to defending the national security, ensuring social order and safety, and building the People's Public Security Forces, notably 35 female heroes of the armed forces, 27 comrades holding the position of Department level or higher, 1 comrade promoted to the Lieutenant-General rank, 9 female Generals of the People's Public Security, 12 female Associate Professors, 135 female Doctors of People's Public Security, 2 female Deputies of the National Assembly. In particular, for the first time, there are comrades being members of the National Assembly's National Defense and Security Committee.

Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Elisa Fernandez highly appreciated the efforts of Vietnam in general and its Ministry of Public Security in particular in the work of implementing gender equality, enhancing the role of women, and preventing violence against women and expressed thanks to the Ministry of Public Security for holding this meaningful event. She asserted that the United Nations will continue to help Vietnam in realizing the goals of gender equality and protecting women and children in the country.

Delegates and speakers emphasized that organizing this workshop was extremely necessary. The rapid changes in socio-economic conditions, especially the development of the Fourth Industrial Revolution have posed new theoretical, practical issues as well as advantages and challenges for the work of gender equality and women's empowerment in general and the People's Public Security Forces in particular.

Delegates also presented a series of speeches, provided useful information and international experiences on Gender Equality in Asia - Pacific, The women’s role in law enforcement within ASEAN, The role of women in the police work in Vietnam, Sharing experiences on gender equality in Australia, the Netherlands and International experiences (UK, New Zealand, Laos, Australia) on preventing violence against women, etc.

The workshop gave foreign friends a closer insight into the work of ensuring gender equality in the People's Public Security Forces and protecting the rights of women and children in Vietnam. Besides, it served as an occasion for Vietnam to learn from international experiences. During the workshop, representatives from the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security actively interacted and exchanged experiences with international guests and speakers on gender equality and prevention of violence against women and children.

At the workshop, a series of initiatives were also put forth to strengthen gender equality, enhance women’s role, and prevent violence against women in the time ahead.
