At the meeting, the Deputy Minister expressed his satisfaction in witnessing the effective implementation of cooperative efforts in combating crime, enforcing the law, and ensuring the security and order of each country, especially after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Combating Transnational Crime between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the FBI in 2019.
Since 2019, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security has cooperated in responding to over 300 requests for criminal information exchange from the FBI related to case investigations, prosecution support, and criminal trials. In 2023, the ministry handed over five wanted individuals to US law enforcement agencies.
Regarding cooperation in training, the Vietnamese official highly appreciated the FBI’s cooperation in supporting the capacity-building of law enforcement officers of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security.
In addition, he acknowledged the joint organization of numerous training seminars on cybercrime, money laundering, and other transnational crimes.
To further enhance the cooperation between the FBI and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, the Deputy Minister proposed the two sides continue to effectively implement the 2019 MoU and increase all-level exchanges to share information on mutual interests.
The official also suggested that the FBI provide adequate support for Vietnam's investigative efforts and support Vietnam with modern equipment, technology transfer, and specialized solutions serving crime prevention.
Regarding training cooperation with the FBI Academy, he asked for continued scholarships, training programs, and capacity-building opportunities for Vietnamese officers in the US.
Furthermore, it is necessary to foster the exchange of expertise, training materials, and the organization of conferences and workshops on crime prevention, leadership skills, and English language training, he said.
On the 116th anniversary of the FBI (July 26, 1908 – July 26, 2024), the Deputy Minister extended greetings to the FBI and expressed his hope that the Bureau will remain an active partner of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security in maintaining security and safety for the benefit of Vietnamese and US citizens, thereby enhancing the countries’ relations.
