Over 340 Vietnamese citizens came back home from Japan on July 28 on a Vietnam Airlines flight and nearly 180 Vietnamese were flown home from Brunei on July 29 by budget carrier Vietjet Air.

The passengers include the elderly, pregnant women, the sick, stranded tourists, labourers with expired contracts and apprentices, students without accommodations and those in extremely disadvantaged circumstances.

The flights arranged by Vietnamese authorities, the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and Brunei, two carriers together with agencies in the host countries along with Lilama Corporation in Brunei where Vietnamese citizens worked.

The Vietnamese Embassies also sent staff members to support them at the airport.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, disease prevention measures were carried out throughout the flight. The flight crew and all passengers were also given heath examinations upon landing at Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Can Tho International Airport then sent to a concentrated quarantine area in line with regulations.

The plane carrying 219 Vietnamese citizens left stranded in Equatorial Guinea have been landed at Noi Bai Airport on July 29 afternoon. Among these citizens, 129 people are infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The Ministry of Health dispatches two doctors and two orderlies on board the aircraft together with necessary medical equipment such as ventilators, protective clothes and specialized N85 masks to support the workers.

Four more people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 that causes the acute respiratory disease.

The health ministry reported that, as of July 29 evening, Vietnam had 34 cases of community transmission related to the outbreak in Da Nang, the first such cases in more than three months, neighbouring Quang Nam province, Quang Ngai province and Hanoi.

Of the 34 cases, over 20 are related to the Da Nang Hospital.

The national tally now stands at 450 (not counting over 200 infected citizens returning from Equatorial Guinea), of whom 369 have recovered. The remainder are being treated at 12 medical facilities nationwide.

The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on July 29 ordered tightening supervision over the pandemic in all localities nationwide, with special attention to be given to people who travelled through sites now under lockdown in central Da Nang city.

Localities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, meanwhile, have many people who have recently been to Da Nang and thus face high risks of infection.

Those who have visited the city since July 1 are recommended making health declarations and inform local authorities and medical agencies.

It also agreed to tighten COVID-19 prevention and control regulations, in particular the wearing of face masks in large gatherings and on public transport and the regular washing of hands with soap, while warning people against any unnecessary travel.

However, the high school graduation exams, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do said, will still take place as scheduled, on August 9 and 10.

Students will be classified into four groups - F0 (infected with COVID-19), F1 (exposed to F0), F2 (exposed to F1), and the others, for the exams, to ensure both epidemic prevention and students’ rights and interests, he added.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will join hands with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Transport in regulating the repatriation of overseas Vietnamese in accordance with the latest situation.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has warned against the holding of festivals, large gatherings and any unnecessary events./.
