Sports festival held in RoK to mark Southern liberation
The Vietnamese Student Association of the University of Ulsan in the Republic of Korea on May 10th hosted the Ulsan Sport Festival 2015 for Vietnamese students in the country to mark the 40th anniversary of the Southern liberation and National reunification day.
The festival was sponsored in cooperation with the Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC), the Department of International Relations of the University of Ulsan, and the Vietnamese Student Association in the Republic of Korea.
It attracted more than 300 Vietnamese student athletes from 12 universities and research institutions in the Republic of Korea.
Mr. Cheong Won-kyo, representative of the Department of International Relations of the University of Ulsan, said that his department was honoured to be the sponsoring unit for the sports festival to mark the 40th anniversary of the Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day of Vietnam and pledged to continue to sponsor the event in following years to expand it into an annual sports tournament for Vietnamese students in the country.
While Mr. Nguyen Cong Long, head of the Vietnamese Student Association of the University of Ulsan and head of the organizing board, expressed the hope the event was an opportunity for Vietnamese students in the Republic of Korea to strengthen solidarity, meet together and exchange ideas and look towards the homeland.
"I’m very happy to join the festival. I hope it will be held annually because it is not merely a sport tournament, but also an opportunity for Vietnamese students in the Republic of Korea to meet, exchange and enhance solidarity" said Truong My Linh, a third-year student from the University of Uiduk in Gyeongju province and a member of the team winning the gold medal of men's football.
Meanwhile, female students from Yeongnam University in the city of Daegu won the gold medal of women's football./.
