BBC meteorologist Matt Taylor told BBC Breakfast viewers that August will get off to a baking hot start, with temperatures passing 30C by next weekend.
He said: "After that exceptional heat we all experienced on Friday, it has certainly turned cooler this weekend.
"However, we still have some sunshine around and when that sun is out, the weather will feel quite pleasant."
Taylor showed a temperature chart of Nottingham, which revealed temperatures will stay around 19C on Sunday and Monday, before suddenly jumping to 29C and 30C by next Friday and Saturday.

He explained: "In the second half of the week, temperatures are set to climb across the country once again.
"Once we hit Friday and Saturday, we could be in the very hot category once more, especially across the eastern half of the country.
"Today it will be warm when the sun's out, cooler when the cloud is around. Some clouds will bring some showers today, with the weather wettest in Scotland and northern England.
"There could be outbreaks of heavy showers across Northern Ireland into the afternoon while at the same time, some of these showers could turn to thunderstorms in Scotland.
"Temperatures will stay around 15C in Scotland, but reach as high as 24C in southern England and Wales."
Taylor added that Monday will be a drier day, ahead of the scorching heatwave moving into the UK (Image: BBC) |

Sunny spells Monday with showers in the east, heavy in the southeast. Cloud and rain, heavy in the northwest, affecting many areas Tuesday and Wednesday, though the southeast mostly dry.
On Friday, August 7, parts of the UK could see a whopping 32C.

In its long range forecast from August 6 to August 15, the Met Office very warm weather is on the cards.
It said: “There are increasing signs that many parts will become drier, brighter and very warm towards the end of next week with the possibility of hot conditions developing again in southeastern areas.
“However, northwestern parts will probably stay more unsettled with further rain at times.
“Somewhat cooler conditions may follow from the west over the weekend, perhaps preceded by showers or thunderstorms.
“For the following week, a fair amount of dry, bright warm weather looks likely for much of the UK with the possibility of some further very warm weather, especially in the southeast.
“There may well be more changeable, breezy interludes with some rain or showers, more especially for northwestern areas where temperatures will be generally nearer normal.”

However, from Sunday, August 16, the weather is expected to become wetter and windier.
In its forecast from August 16 to August 30, the forecast said: “This period is likely to see a mixture of dry and settled conditions, interspersed with occasional bouts of wetter and windier weather.
“The majority of the unsettled weather seems more likely to be in the northwest, with the south and southeast seeing the driest conditions.”
However, the Met Office noted temperatures will still be high.
The forecaster added: “Temperatures will probably be around or slightly above the average for this time of year.
“There may be further short lived very warm spells, these more likely across the south or southeast.
“There are some tentative signs that conditions could become more widely dry and settled across the UK towards the end of the month.”

Europe's weather forecast
BBC Weather has forecast violent and ferocious thunderstorms over the weekend across Europe as temperatures plummet.
BBC Weather forecaster Stav Danaos said Europe will see a decrease in temperatures following the hot weather across the continent this week. He said a new cold weather front is set to move across Europe and bring heavy rain and thunderstorms. This will impact much of central Europe over the weekend and into the new week and result in temperatures just above 20C for many countries.

Mr Danaos said: "It is the heat that has been making the stories across Europe the last couple of days. "We saw searing temperatures across the south east England and parts of northern France in the last 24 hours.
"But as a cold front moves in we can expect a drop in temperature and to see some pretty violent thunderstorms with some very large hail and lightning, particularly across central-eastern France."
The BBC Weather forecaster went into detail about how this weather front would impact central Europe over the weekend into the new week.
He said: "That cold front will continue its journey eastwards and will be pushing into the hot weather across Germany into the Czech Republic.

"For Sunday there will be some pretty ferocious storms there.
"Hot dry and sunny summer weather across the eastern Mediterranean in towards Greece.
"With that heat in place, the central parts of Europe will see some really ferocious thunderstorms and lightning on Sunday.
Scandinavia will see temperatures increase slightly over the weekend with some areas seeing more rain.
As we head into the new week, that wet weather front will push further eastwards and impact parts of eastern Europe.

Mr Danaos continued: "On Monday that cold front will be spreading into Eastern Europe.
"There will be some heavy rain and some of it will be thundery at times. "Much cooler and fresher conditions behind that cold front as temperatures back closer to the seasonal average."
For London and Paris, the week will begin with temperatures just above 20C at 22C. As the week progresses these temperatures are expected to increase and both cities have 30C days forecasted.
Both Madrid and Rome will maintain their hot temperatures with the Spanish city seeing temperatures just shy of 40C.
