New Covid-19 cases on December 7 reach 13,840

Vietnam has recorded 13,840 new coronavirus cases in 59 cities and provinces across the country during the past 24 hours, down 751 cases compared to the previous day, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in its coronavirus update on December 7. Of the total, 7,306 cases were detected in the community through random testing and test screening. Official data from the MoH also showed an additional 217 patients died and 1,249 more patients recovered from the disease.

Most of the newly detected cases were in southern localities, with Ho Chi Minh City registering the highest number of infections at 965. It was followed by Can Tho, Soc Trang, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, Binh Duong, Ca Mau, and Vinh Long that reported between 500 and 900 cases each.

In the north, Hanoi recorded 737 new cases, with one-third diagnosed in the community. There were also sharp rises in infection numbers in Bac Ninh and Hai Phong provinces that saw 190 and 156 cases detected respectively. Elsewhere, three out of five Central Highland provinces, namely Dak Lak, Dak Nong, and Lam Dong, confirmed more than 100 new infections each.

HCM City plans to administer third Covid-19 vaccine shot from Dec. 10

Ho Chi Minh City plans to give additional and booster shots of vaccine to its locals from December 10, according to a document submitted by the municipal Health Department to the municipal People’s Committee for approval. Accordingly, additional Covid-19 shots will first go to the adults (from 18 years old) who have been fully inoculated with the last shot of the normal course for at least 28 days and are immunocompromised. Priority will be given to those aged over 50.

Meanwhile, the city will administer the booster shots to people aged above 18 who are fully vaccinated or receive the additional shot for at least six months. The priority will be given to people aged over 50, those suffering from underlying health issues, people who require long-term care at health facilities, and medical workers, especially those directly involved in collecting samples for testing and treating Covid-19 patients. Vaccines used for additional and repeat injections are the vaccines approved by the Ministry of Health.

As of December 5, over 7.92 million people in Ho Chi Minh City had been vaccinated, with nearly 6.82 million of them receiving the full two jabs. Meanwhile, Hanoi has to date administered nearly 6.2 million people or 94.2 percent of the population aged 18 and above. Of the total, over 5.5 million people in the capital city have been inoculated fully.

HCM City receives 100,000 Covid-19 aid packages

As many as 100,000 aid packages worth VND 30 billion (USD 1.3 million) was delivered to Ho Chi Minh City on December 7 in support of locals affected by the pandemic. The packages were donated by the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) and the Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB bank).

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Vice President of the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee Pham Minh Tuan expressed his gratitude toward the assistance, which he said is meaningful and practical. The aid will be delivered to the targeted groups as soon as possible, he affirmed, wishing for further support to come in the future.

According to the official, the city now basically puts the disease under control, switches to safe and flexible adaptation to Covid-19, and sees socio-economic recovery. However, the epidemic's complicated developments continue with a high number of Covid-19 infections, negatively impacting the lives of local people, particularly the needy.

Hanoi rolls out drastic Covid-19 fight measures amid rising infection number

The People’s Committee of Hanoi has issued a document guiding Covid-19 prevention and control measures amid the rising number of infections in recent days. Under the document, the committee asked the People’s Committees of districts and towns to direct relevant forces to promptly launch mobile medical stations to receive, quarantine, manage and give treatment to Covid-19 patients following guidance from the city and Ministry of Health.

Localities were requested to form community-based teams to support the supervision of Covid-19 patients at home to ease pressure on mobile medical stations. The city People’s Committee directed localities to provide training and guidance for the teams in monitoring the health of Covid-19 patients at home. The city Health Department was assigned to ask local hospitals to give professional guidelines to the mobile medical stations.

Meanwhile, home quarantine for F1s will be continued in line with instructions from the Ministry of Health. Localities were allowed to make adjustments and supplementation to administrative measures in pandemic prevention and control in different pandemic levels, including the restrictions and suspension of unnecessary services, including restaurants, and mass gatherings depending on the developments of Covid-19. Meanwhile, districts and towns were requested to coordinate with the municipal Department of Transport to coordinate and transport Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms, samples, and F1s to quarantine and treatment facilities.
