527 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours

Vietnam logged 116 additional Covid-19 cases, including 115 domestic ones, from 6 am to 12 pm on June 30, according to the Ministry of Health.

The country posted additional 240 Covid-19 cases, consisting of 233 domestic and seven imported ones, from 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm on June 30. Of the domestic cases, 124 were detected in Ho Chi Minh City, 57 in Binh Duong, 12 in Dong Nai, 10 in Quang Ngai, six in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, five in Dong Thap, four in each of Nghe An, An Giang, and Phu Yen, three in Bac Ninh, and two in Da Nang and two in Bac Giang. Among them, 221 cases were detected in quarantine or sealed-off areas.

Vietnam's ongoing Covid-19 outbreak continues to grow with 189 new domestic Covid-19 patients confirmed Thursday morning, including 158 cases in Ho Chi Minh City. The rest of the cases were registered in four other localities: Tien Giang (16), Phu Yen (eight), Hung Yen (six), and Vinh Long (one).

81st Covid-19 fatality reported

Health authorities Wednesday confirmed a 61-year-old man in Ho Chi Minh City is the 81st Covid-19 death in the country. This is the 46th death in the latest Covid-19 wave starting April 27.

He was admitted to Trung Vuong Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City on June 20 after days of coughing and having trouble breathing. He died on June 26. The patient used to have tuberculosis seven years ago. The cause of death was recorded as severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19, complications of respiratory failure, and multi-organ failure in a patient with a history of tuberculosis.

Vietnam to receive 1 million more Covid-19 vaccine doses from Japan

One million doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine donated by Japan are expected to be delivered to Vietnam on July 1 and July 8, the Ministry of Health said.

Plus another one million doses already delivered on June 16, Japan has to date presented 2 million doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine to Vietnam.

“Japan’s donation of vaccines to Vietnam is a testament to the profound friendship between the two countries,” the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam said in a statement on June 25. The vaccine doses will help Vietnam fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

UAE extends ban on Vietnam flights

Flights from 14 countries including Vietnam will remain suspended until at least July 21, UAE aviation authorities have said.

Other countries facing the ban are Pakistan, India, Liberia, Namibia, Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Zambia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and South Africa, The Gulf News reported quoting a source from the General Civil Aviation Authority.

There are continued concerns over the latest delta-plus variant of the coronavirus. A mutation of the delta variant considered to be 50 percent more transmissible than other strains, delta-plus is now present in 12 countries, including the U.S., the U.K., Japan, Russia, and China.

The UAE suspended all flights from the 14 countries on June 5 due to its Covid-19 pandemic situation linked to the new virus strain. The country has so far had over 631,000 infections and 1,807 deaths.

Over two months into the new Covid-19 wave, the fourth one and the most challenging Vietnam has faced yet, the nation has recorded 13,684 domestic cases in 50 of its 63 cities and provinces.

Bac Giang Province and Ho Chi Minh City account for most infections, with 5,703 and 3,998 cases. A total of 6,840 patients were given the all-clear, while the death toll reached 81. Of the patients who are still under treatment, 278 tested negative for the novel coronavirus once, 14 twice, and 81 thrice.
