The three Vietnamese-origin candidates hail from diverse backgrounds and professions. They include an independent artist, a tailor, and a civil servant. Despite their different paths, they share a common trait of dynamism and active involvement in the Vietnamese community in Belgium, along with a strong desire to contribute to the development of their host country.

Quynh Iris Nguyen-de Prelle is Candidate No. 12 on List No. 8 of the Les Engagés Party in the Woluwe-Saint-Lambert district. Her campaign slogan, “Poetry - Climate - Politics,” reflects her values. She emphasizes the importance of protecting urban green spaces, improving school meal quality, educating children, promoting cultural diversity, and preserving local historical heritage.

She founded the Intercultural Vietnam-Pacific Center (IVB) in Brussels as a poet and independent artist.

On October 5, the IVB Center hosted a booth promoting Vietnamese culture at the Hakuna Matata Festival. This marked the first time Vietnamese culture was showcased in the heart of Brussels, a city home to nearly 190 nationalities.

Through traditional family meals, Thuy Phap martial arts, and lion dances, Quynh Iris Nguyen-de Prelle and other members of the IVB Center introduced Vietnamese culture to international friends.

Hang Nguyen, the First Deputy Mayor of the Watermael-Boitsfort district, is Candidate No. 2 on the MR-GM-Engagés Party’s list. She arrived in Belgium at the age of four with her mother and has been actively involved in social and cultural activities within the Vietnamese community from a young age.

In her campaign, Hang Nguyen stressed her desire to preserve and promote Vietnamese traditions, connect with the Vietnamese community in Belgium, and share Vietnamese culture with the local population.

“Thanks to your support, we can affirm that one’s origin, social background, and gender should not be barriers to pursuing their dreams,” Hang Nguyen wrote in her campaign message.

Le Janssens de Bisthoven Kim Bi, known as Le Kim Bi in Vietnamese is Candidate No. 18 on the DÉFI Party’s list in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre district. She arrived in Belgium in 2008 and has studied advanced garment making in Brussels.

Her fellow DÉFI Party members have described Kim Bi as a "ray of sunshine" on their list. In her campaign, she focused on enhancing support for the elderly and improving access to lifelong education.

“I aim to improve support for the elderly by receiving their concerns and providing quality services. I also want to contribute to better access to lifelong education for those who cannot attend evening classes,” Kim Bi shared regarding her campaign goals.

Vietnamese-owned businesses in Brussels have actively supported the Vietnamese candidates by displaying their photos, promoting their campaigns in stores and restaurants, and encouraging voters to participate in the election on October 13.

Belgian members of the Les Engagés, MR-GM-Engagés, and DÉFI parties, alongside the Vietnamese community in Belgium, have also expressed widespread support and encouragement for the three Vietnamese female candidates on social media platforms.
