“Ký ức và di sản” (Memories and Heritages) is a part of the series of activities honoring the Vietnamese Ao Dai, celebrating the success of the 13th National Party Congress and the 111th anniversary of the International Women's Day (March 8, 1910 - March 8, 2021), also responding to "Ao Dai Week".

At the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga gifted the Vietnamese Women's Museum two Ao Dai which she wore during the Ceremony of appointing the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations and the Ceremony presenting the State President’s credential to the Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon in 2014.

VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga (M) gifted two Ao dai to the Vietnamese Women's Museum.

The Ambassador shared: "I feel extremely proud of wearing Ao Dai at the international forums, diplomatic events or during the visit to countries, etc. I am well aware of my responsibility to behave in such a way that it is worth the country's traditional and historical values. Ao Dai wearing creates Vietnam's national best image to the world. As being diplomats, my colleagues and I take the responsibility to not only protect the country’s highest interests but also promote the traditional values of the country, of humankind. Many international friends praise Vietnamese women who look so polite, attractive, and elegant in Ao Dai. They asked me about the differences in materials and origin of Ao Dai as well as differences between traditional and modern Ao Dai”.

Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga (R) shared her memories when participating in performing Ao Dai and national musical instruments at a Vietnamese cultural event in New York (the United States). The event was attended by nearly 1,000 Ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions to the United Nations.

"Vietnamese Ao Dai deserves the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. This is because Ao Dai is associated with the history and development of the country as well as with Vietnamese women; at the same time, it is Vietnam’s outstanding representative in the international fashion industry, showing the talents of the local artisans. I believe that Ao Dai will continue to be honored and loved by Vietnamese women. We will make Vietnamese Ao Dai more beautiful and more popular in the world and in the Vietnamese community overseas", Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga emphasized.

At the ceremony, the Vietnamese Women's Museum received 20 Ao Dai in the collection of more than 1,000 ones introduced at the show "Ao Dai - Vietnamese cultural heritage" at Temple of Literature on June 28, 2020. The event was co-organized by the Vietnamese Women's Association and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. With impressive lines, motifs and colors, well-known UNESCO World Heritages in Vietnam such as Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, Hoi An Ancient Town, Hue Royal Court Music, Mother Goddesses worship, Space of Gong Culture in the Central Highlands, etc were recreated vividly and subtly on Ao Dai.

Three diaries of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong, former Deputy Head of Department of Pediatrics, Hanoi Medical University, write about her life at the high school, at Hanoi Medical University Hospital from 1960 to 1976.

The Museum was also given 358 photos with the themes of Women; Culture, Spirituality; Places, Scenic spots, etc from the journalist - photographer Dinh Quang Thanh (the former reporter of the Vietnam News Agency).

As for the series of activities to celebrate the 111th anniversary of International Women's Day (March 8, 2010 - March 8, 2021), the Vietnamese Women's Union launched the "Ao Dai Week" 2021, encouraging women of all ages, especially Union’s members, female officers to wear Ao Dai daily from March 1 to 8 to honor the beauty of Ao Dai and Vietnamese women.
