10,000 masks presented to Vietnamese in UK for COVID-19 prevention

In attendance at the handover ceremony were representatives of the Vietnamese Association in the UK, the Vietnam Business Association in the UK, along with a number Vietnamese community representatives.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Tran Ngoc An note how the donation can serve as a symbol for the spirit of mutual support towards Vietnamese expats in an effort to help them pull through these tough time and mitigate the risks of the COVID-19 infection in the UK - a country that has been hard hit by the epidemic with 300,469 cases, including 42,288 deaths as of June 18.
The embassy will continue to provide support for and serve as a bridge to help the Vietnamese community in the country overcome the difficult time, he added.
The diplomat also highlighted Vietnam’s marked achievements in the fight against COVID-19 that have been lauded by the international community.
Representing at the ceremony, representatives of the Vietnamese community from all over the UK expressed their support for the COVID-19 epidemic prevention actions and control measures that the nation has carried out in the hope that the epidemic soon be stamped out.
Ho Vu Phong Truong, a representative of the Vietnamese community in Birmingham, extended sincere thanks to the support and concern shown by the Vietnamese Government and other relevant agencies while promising to directly distribute the face masks among the Vietnamese community as swiftly as possible.

Last week, the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland also handed over masks of the Vietnamese government to the Vietnamese community through the Association of Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts in Switzerland (AVIES) and the Vietnamese students’ association in the host country.
The embassy presented six boxes of Vietnamese books of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to students at Binh Minh School in Zurich in preparation for their new academic year in September 2020.
Before delivering the books, Ambassador Le Linh Lan also had a meeting with the Vietnamese government to the association of Vietnamese people in Switzerland and the Switzerland-Vietnam Friendship Association (SVA).
SVA President Anjuska Weil took the opportunity to expressed her deep impression on the Vietnamese government’s efforts in preventing the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vietnam has not only protected health of its people but also foreigners who are residing, working and travelling in the country, she said, adding that the face masks donation is a demonstration of the two countries’ traditional friendship, as well as the sharing of the Vietnamese government and the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland for the SVA.
