Worldometer which tracks coronavirus cases around the globe corroborates the occurrence. Greenland, out of the 210 countries and territories affected, is the only country which bounced back quickly, and now has no active cases of COVID-19 at present.

The European Union Observer reported that all cases had occurred in Nuuk, the capital city, the most populous city in the country. The diagnosed citizens had then gone into curfew and have recovered. The report pointed out that the largest island in the world with a population of 57,000 and a lack of healthcare facilities would be severely hit but coronavirus, Trip Zilla reported.

Moreover, according to a report by EUobserver, the capital city is closed off and those who wish to travel in or out require special permission. Greenland closed all of its borders in order to keep the novel coronavirus contained. The country took drastic measures in the hopes of preventing history from repeating itself within its borders.

"A grim history of deadly epidemics brought to Greenland in the 18th and 19th century by European colonizers has fueled fears that the coronavirus, if not checked, will fast reach the many small outlying villages, thereby creating urgent and impossible demands for emergency air transport and intensive care in Greenland's small hospitals," Newsweek cited the report.

Ove Rosing Olsen, a retired doctor and former minister of health in Greenland, also told the EUobserver that the draconian lockdown could last for a year as the country does not have the resources to deal with a large sick population.

“Instead of allowing the virus to spread, it is all about keeping it at bay until a vaccine is available. I believe we will have to have very little contact with others for a longer time, perhaps for another 12 months," Rosing Olsen told News Week.

Dr. Gert Mulvad, who works at Queen Ingrid's Hospital, the only large medical facility in Greenland, said that he has no idea how many people would need medical attention if lockdown measures are lifted without a vaccine readily available.

According to the national media office in Denmark, Greenland announced its first case of the novel coronavirus on 16 March. It’s been 20 days since the last patients won the virus.

Greenland Prime Minister Kim Kielsen is confident that there is no more cross-infection in the community after 11 people with COVID-19 have fully recovered. The capital Nuuk, which has been lockdown since March 18, began to relax restrictions. The Nuuk Center shopping center is about to reopen, students gradually return to the school, the alcohol sales facilities are allowed to operate again. A new COVID-19 test machine has been put into operation in the laboratory at Nuuk.

However, Prime Minister Kielsen said that the government and people of Greenland need to be vigilant until the vaccine for nCoV. The leader urged as many people to work from home as possible until May 1. "Stay at home, adhere to recommendations on epidemiological hygiene and social spacing. This is exactly how we can avoid infection," he said.
