According to Skymet Weather, an active Western Disturbance is now over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir.

A cyclonic circulation is over Lakshadweep area. A trough is extending from north east India to Lakshadweep across Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and coastal Karnataka at mid tropospheric level.

A trough is extending from Sri Lanka to Andhra Pradesh coast. An anticyclone is over Madhya Pradesh. Light to moderate rain and thundershower with isolated heavy spells are expected over Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka.

Scattered light rain with one or two moderate spells is possible over south Konkan and Goa, Rayalaseema, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Light to moderate rain and snow activities with isolated intense spells are expected over Jammu Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh and at few places over Himachal Pradesh.

Day and night temperatures are expected to remain above normal over North West and Central India. Minimums may increase marginally over North West India.

According to Hindustan Times, air quality early warning system for Delhi under the ministry of earth sciences had forecast that air quality is likely to be in very poor category on Monday and Tuesday. The predominant surface wind is likely to be coming from west of Delhi with wind speed 05-15 kmph, mainly clear sky and mist or shallow fog in the morning on February 23.

Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department said dense to very dense fog was observed in isolated pockets over Delhi, and the visibility remained 500 metres in most parts of the city.

“Winds are calm at night and early morning. For the last three days, winds have been calm at night. There is no dispersal of pollutants which is why pollution levels are going up,” said Kuldeep Shrivastava, head, regional weather forecasting centre.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the wet weather is mainly due to the presence of two troughs, which are elongated regions of low atmospheric pressure. The national forecaster state that a trough runs from Nagaland to Lakshadweep across Telangana and southern parts of Coastal Karnataka, while another trough lies over the southwest and adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal, which extends from the south Sri Lanka coast to the north Andhra Pradesh coast, across north Tamil Nadu coast.

Under the influence of these systems, westerly winds from the Bay of Bengal bring isolated to scattered rain with lightning over Southern India on Monday and Tuesday, as per The Weather Channel’s meteorologists. Light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning is forecast in some places across Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe during the next 24 hours.

5-Day Nationwide Weather Forecast

According to Weather.com, a western disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region in this forecast period. The system is expected to produce scattered to widespread snow or rain, along with thunderstorms over Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh in this forecast period. There are also possibilities of heavy rain or snow in some isolated places of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Monday. Owing to these rough weather conditions, IMD has issued an orange alert over Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh for today. The advisory instructs residents to ‘be prepared’ for rough weather.

Moreover, under the influence of this system, scattered to fairly-widespread snow or rain with thunderstorms are possible over Himachal Pradesh from Tuesday to Friday.

Parts of south India are expected to start on a wet note due to the prevalence of westerly winds from the Bay of Bengal. It is expected to bring isolated to scattered rain with lightning over south India on Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation is expected to form over northeast India on Tuesday. This will produce isolated rain and thunderstorms over northeast India from Tuesday onward. Dry weather is likely over other areas in this forecast period.

In terms of mercury levels, maximum temperatures are warmer than normal over north India, northwest India and northeast India in this period. Maximum temperatures are lower over south India and southwest India on Monday. Minimum temperatures are warmer or near-normal across India in this forecast period.
