Laotian student jumps in river to save Vietnamese suicidal man

Vongyasone saw a man climbing off Thach Dong bridge and flung himself into Rao Cai river in an apparent suicide bid, as he was passing by on his motorbike with a friend at 8 am on Friday. Without hesitation, Vongyasone jumped into the river to save the strange man.
Vongyasone started to exhaust after 20 mins struggling to hold the man in the fast-flowing river, plus there was not yet any rescue team.
However, they were lucky enough to be saved by a local fishermen’s boat passing by. Both Vongyasone and the man were rushed ashore safe and sound, as reported by locals who witnessed the incident.
Vongyasone Miny is a Laotian student studying at the Department of Science and Environment, Ha Tinh University, central Vietnam.
The suicidal man’s identity was later disclosed as T.V.D, 50 years old, living in Thach Dong commune, Ha Tinh province. His amnesia was allegedly to blame for the suicidal bid.
The story of the Laotian student’s good deed has been shared widely on social networks, leaving Vongyasone flooded with comments raving his braveness. Many netizens show gratitude and admiration to the 22-year-old man.
