MoU Targets Better Health Care for Vietnamese community in RoK
The Association of Vietnamese Communities in Korea (AVCK) and Wonkwang University Hospital recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in medical support for Vietnamese in Korea in the period of 2023-2025.

At the signing ceremony, representative of Wonkwang University Hospital, Park Cheon Gwoen, said that this signed MOU marks a comprehensive cooperation step towards healthcare for Vietnamese in the RoK.
Mai Dieu Thuy, representative of the Vietnamese Embassy, congratulated the cooperation between the two units for the common goal of building a common cooperation mechanism between the stakeholders in order to successfully promote the comprehensive medical support for Vietnamese residing in the RoK.
The embassy will support to remove difficulties in the process of conducting activities between the two units, she added.
According to AVCK Vice President Le Nguyen Minh Phuong, this is the first project that the association has cooperated in the health sector to bring better health benefits to Vietnamese people. The agreement is hoped to mark a more comprehensive cooperation between the two sides, with the highest goal of ensuring support in the field of health, medical examination and treatment for all Vietnamese living, study and work in the host country.
Seo Il Young, director of Wonkwang University Hospital, expressed his pleasure to accompany the AVCK to cooperate in implementing such meaningful activities. Through the cooperation program in the near future, it will contribute to improving the comprehensive access to high-quality medical services for Vietnamese expatriates in Korea.
The AVCK and Wonkwang University Hospital will actively support and give priority to all Vietnamese residing in Korea who have a work accident; and assist medical examination and treatment for Vietnamese people in Korea through the system of Wonkwang University Hospital and its affiliate network.
In cases of urgent medical treatment or need for the Vietnamese community, Wonkwang University Hospital will actively support on the basis of coordination with the community work department of the AVCK, especially with an emergency center in the Southwest region, the hospital will also support the emergency system by helicopter, in case of need for Vietnamese residents.

Vietnam set a target of sending 10,000 workers to the RoK in 2023. Since the beginning of this year, 3,600 laborers have been sent to the East Asian country under the Employment Permit System (EPS) program.
Last year, Vietnam sent nearly 9,000 workers to the RoK under the EPS program, out of 70,000 set for 16 selected countries.
Also, the RoK’s largest telecom company, KT, will work with Dong-A ST, a Korean pharmaceutical company, to develop a Vietnamese language-based medical information platform, KT announced on June 14. Hence, Dong-A ST will create new medical education content so that Vietnamese medical workers can learn about the RoK’s medical technology.
Through the new platform called "Mediflix" set to be released in July, Vietnamese users can watch replays of offline seminars, attend online lectures, and receive advice from instructors. KT is also considering hosting joint seminars with Vietnamese hospitals using the platform.
The telecom company has formed an advisory group consisting of medical staff from five Korean hospitals. The group will come up with curriculums and participate in producing lectures and distributing content.
