Dr. Tran Hai Linh member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and chairman of Vietnam-Korea Businessmen and Investment Association (VKBIA) shared about promoting the resources of overseas Vietnamese in the field of green investment-green economy.
The field of green investment is receiving special attention from the Government. As an overseas Vietnamese businessman, how do you evaluate the advantages of this field in your homeland?
Vietnam is determined to pursue the goal of rapid, sustainable economic growth combined with environmental protection, including a commitment to reduce net emissions to zero by 2050.
Vietnam also agreed to support important statements and initiatives on protecting forests, and natural resources, and transitioning to renewable energy and green energy.
Vietnam is determined to build a green economic structure and green investment with three pillars agriculture-industry services to adapt to climate change trends.
However, in the process of developing green economic investment, many difficulties have arisen when several specific mechanisms, policies and regulations have not been clearly completed. Most of them are stopping at suggesting an approach.
Green and sustainable transformation in our country still faces many challenges, from implementation according to the roadmap, to the issue of financial resources for production and business transformation.
In addition, in Vietnam, the number of small and medium-sized enterprises accounts for around 98%.
Most businesses mainly stop at the consideration level and have not yet taken steps to fully implement or make large investments in green transformation.
Most of them do not clearly understand about green economy and the circular economy as well as the benefits that come from these activities.
Green economy and green development brought many practical benefits, helping increase competitiveness in the international market, especially in the context that Vietnam is participating in the process of extensive international integration and globalization.
Understanding and implementing green investment and green economy is also an opportunity and a standard for Vietnam to take advantage of incentives from multilateral and bilateral Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), especilly the new generation FTA.
In other words, we need to meet some criteria set by FTAs as well as the international market.
What is the role and potential of overseas Vietnamese resources in this field?
Of the total of nearly six million Vietnamese people living abroad today, it is estimated that the number of people with university degrees or higher accounts for about 10%, equivalent to 600 thousand people.
The majority of knowledge experts are Vietnamese living abroad.
They work, and live in developed countries, and are all experienced and knowledgeable in most key industries and fields, with modern technology, such as electronic communication technology, AI, biotechnology, new energy, renewable energy, and green energy.

Promoting the resources of overseas Vietnamese to become a bridge and join hands with Vietnam in the field of green investment-green economy becomes even more important and necessary for practical effectiveness.
Recently, the VKBIA had many activities to promote cooperation with partners in South Korea, as well as support localities in the field of green investment. What are the outstanding prospects from these activities?
Regarding the field of green investment, on November 23, VKBIA Association with Naju city council, Jeollanamdo Provincial Technology Park, Dongshin University (South Korea) officially signed the comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement on investment, research and promotion of building traditional villages, ecological cities, smart cities with self-reliant energy - carbon neutrality, low carbon emission growth in some localities in Vietnam.
We attended the opening ceremony of Daesil Self-Reliant Energy Village Experience Center-Carbon Neutral, held at Mimirak, Daesil village, Naju, Jeollanamdo.
This is a self-reliant energy-sharing economic village model, implemented by Dongshin University, Naju city and green energy research units, including Innomotive, a VKBIA member.
This is also a national program aimed at leading the era of carbon neutrality and green energy transition.
This model will continue to be applied in South Korea and continue to be oriented towards cooperation, investment, and technology transfer, as well as application in some localities in Vietnam.
Previously, on July 14 in Seoul, South Korea, a comprehensive strategic partnership signing ceremony took place between the VKBIA and the One World Impact Capital Limited (OWI) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
We agree to continue cross-border, multinational investment and transition to a low-carbon economy, continuing to pay attention to developing adaptive capacity for a green economy.
With the above activities and practices during working trips and missions in Vietnam, I see that applying green economic development solutions requires close coordination between agencies, organizations and functional sectors in implementation.

From the practical experiences of organizations and individuals, what suggestions do you have to further promote green investment in Vietnam?
The outstanding activities and programs mentioned above help highlight the potential for deeper and more effective cooperation on green investment, the application of science and technology for green industry and green economic development in Vietnam in the coming time.
We will continue to create direct and indirect partnership programs.
We will also be a bridge to effectively implement areas of cooperation between investment funds, organizations, businesses, universities and research institutes for green investment, green economy and green industry, not only limited to Vietnam-South Korea, but also from other developed countries with experience in this field.
