UK and Europe weather forecast latest, October 4: Storm Alex to smash Europe with heavy rain and potential flooding
UK's weather forecast
According to Express, strong winds will sweep across Britain with heavy showers which could bring 120mm of rainfall in exposed areas. The Met Office’s rare amber weather warning for rain has predicted flooding in some parts of the UK as travel disruption and power cuts are likely.
The amber warnings cover areas in Scotland, south west England, Wales and the west Midlands. Yellow weather warnings for rain have also been issued for many parts of the UK down the central line of the country.
The Met Office said “fast flowing or deep floodwater is likely, causing danger to life” in areas where the amber warnings are in place."
Homes and businesses are also likely to flood due to severe rain. Aidan McGivern, Met Office Meteorologist, said: “It’s going to be a very wet weekend with some places wet enough for an amber warning to be in force.”

He added: “It was southern parts of the country that bore the brunt of Storm Alex earlier on Friday."
“That’s moving away but at the same time areas of rain pushing up from the continent and spreading their way westwards across the UK as we start of the weekend.”
Temperatures are expected to reach around 11 to 13 Celsius at the highest on Saturday. Mr McGivern said: “A driving wind from the north east will make it feel cold under that wet weather.” But some areas could see a touch a sun in the east of England.
Mr McGivern added: “It does brighten up and dry up across East Anglia in the south east by Saturday afternoon. So it’s not going to be wet all day here just a few showers and perhaps even some sunny spells.”
The rainfall on Saturday afternoon will be particularly heavy in eastern Scotland and much of western England. Rainfall is expected to reach 50 to 70mm, but in exposed hills it could hit 120mm, according to the Met Office.

The rain will be heavy enough to cause travel and power disruptions as well as localised flooding. Heavy rain is also expected to create dangerous driving conditions as experts warn Britons to stay safe.
Carol Holt, Flood Duty Manager at the Environment Agency, said: “Widespread and persistent heavy rain is likely to lead to flooding for some areas over the weekend.”
She added: “Environment Agency teams have been working hard to clear grills and weed screens in areas which may be affected."
“We urge people to stay away from swollen rivers and not to drive through flood water – it is often deeper than it looks and just 30cm of flowing water is enough to float your car.”

Sunday is forecast to be cloudy with more outbreak of rain as low pressure continues to sweep over the UK.
Storm Alex was named by French forecasters and has brought gusts of up to 115mph in Brittany this week. The Met Office has urged local residents to “be prepared” in areas where amber warnings are in place.

According to Weather Online, pressure stays low on Sunday. More periods of rain rotating around the area of low pressure which will be centred over England. The rain will be heavy at times, and although there is much uncertainty, it does look as if this will be heaviest in Ireland and through southern England and Wales.

Europe's weather forecast
BBC Weather has forecast more unsettled weather for Europe as Storm Alex threatens to spark heavy rain, 100mph winds and potential flooding.
BBC Weather forecaster Darren Bett warned of intense weather for the northwest of Europe due to Storm Alex. He insisted there would be more bouts of 100mph winds and heavy rain for the UK, France, northern Spain and parts of northern Italy. The southeast of Europe will see significantly drier and warm weather, however.
Mr Bett said: "Storm Alex brought gusts of over 100mph to the northwest of France and some damage through the Bay of Biscay. It has since been swallowed up by this bigger area of low pressure that will bring some wet and windy weather to many western parts of Europe."

"It will be very wet and windy and we will see some rain pushing ahead of that across the Alps heading towards the Balkans. There is going to be some heavy rain and there may be some flooding around as well."

The BBC Weather forecaster highlighted the contrasting weather in eastern Europe. Mr Bett said: "For eastern parts of Europe heat is going to be building in some areas.
"We do have that rain trying to push its way eastwards but the wetter weather continues to be more across the northwest of Europe. It will remain very unsettled here with some strong winds too."
The southeast of Europe will experience a lot of sunshine over the weekend and, in some areas, temperatures will exceed 30C.
The weather forecaster added: "For the southeast of Europe it is still dry. It is here we have the higher temperatures but that heat is moving its way to Bulgaria and Ukraine."
"There are still some sharp showers to come through the Balkans but some wetter weather ahead for northern parts of Iberia."
"The UK and Scandinavia will be generally unsettled with the showers and spells of rain."

Over the weekend both London and Paris will see temperatures fall below 15C. However, going into the new week temperatures will rise slightly with more sunshine. Next week, Madrid and Rome will see temperatures rise to above 20C.
