United States Supports An Independent And Prosperous Vietnam
Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan hosted a welcoming ceremony for her US counterpart Kamala Harris during her official visit to Vietnam at the Presidential Palace on the morning of August 25. Kamala Harris' visit to Vietnam takes place from August 24 to August 26.
At the ceremony, Harris expressed her honor to be the first US vice president to visit Vietnam and thanked Vietnamese leaders and people for their thoughtful and solemn welcome. The US vice president reaffirmed that the United States supported a strong, independent, and prosperous Vietnam, which continues to renovate, develop international integration, and assume increasingly important roles in ASEAN and the region.
In a later meeting with Kamala Harris, Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that Vietnam consistently implemented an independent and self-reliant foreign policy. He said the country was ready to be a reliable partner, making positive contributions to regional and international peace, stability and development.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc hoped Vietnam and the US would further develop the Comprehensive Partnership to be more in-depth, solid, efficient, and mutually beneficial, on the principle of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, and integrity of territories and institutions, for international and regional peace, stability and development cooperation.
Kamala Harris highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts to control the Covid-19 pandemic and reaffirmed US commitment to continue to assist Vietnam in fighting the pandemic.

At a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the same day, the US Vice President informed Chinh that the United States would donate one million doses of Pfizer vaccine to Vietnam. Harris attended the online opening ceremony of the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention Southeast Asia Regional Office in Hanoi on the afternoon of August 25. She also witnessed the signing ceremony of a land lease contract to build a new office for the US Embassy to Vietnam.
Kamala Harris arrived in Vietnam after concluding a visit to Singapore, where she affirmed the US commitment to a long-term engagement with Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific region.
