The meeting aimed at making preparation for the 5th Singapore International Cyber Week (SICW-5) and the 5th ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cyber Security (AMCC-5) which are slated to take place virtually in Singapore from October 5 to October 10, according to Thoi Dai.

The event is held annually by the Ministry of Communications and Information of Singapore since 2016 with a view to sharing experiences and updating information on the cybersecurity situation in the region and in the world. Receiving the invitation of Minister S. Iswaran, Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Deputy Minister of Public Security will lead the delegation to attend SICW-5 and AMCC-5.

At the meeting, the two sides expressed concerns about threats of cyber-attack especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, the two sides exchanged information about the cybersecurity situation in each country which could help to coordinate stances and handle cyber-attack cases of the two countries.

For his part, Minister of Public Security To Lam shared information about the situation of cybersecurity in Vietnam and the region as well as the country's efforts in ensuring cybersecurity over the past time. Accordingly, Vietnam has confronted unanticipated dangers from cyberspace which could directly threaten national security as well as social safety and order.

Vietnam has concentrated on enhancing capacity to ensure cybersecurity for important information systems through promulgating the Law on Cyber ​​Security 2018 and implementing the "National Digital Transformation Program by 2025, with orientations toward 2030” with the target to taking Vietnam to enter the list of world’s top 50 countries in e-government development (EGDI). Besides, Vietnam has paid attention to build codes of conduct on cyberspace based on principles and 11 voluntary standards of the United Nations to maintain healthy and safe cyberspace.

In terms of international cooperation, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security will preside over the 14th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC 14) expected to take place in November. Vietnam also attended the 20th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC 20) last September 24.

Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security has always identified cyber and high-tech crimes as the main front to strengthen coordination with law enforcement agencies of ASEAN countries, especially with Singapore. In addition, Ministry of Public Security pledged to promote the work of ensuring cybersecurity in the depth, corresponding with the theme “For a cohesive ASEAN against transnational crime".

Minister of Public Security To Lam also proposed a number of measures to reinforce cooperation with Singapore in ensuring cybersecurity, information security, and preventing cyber and hi-tech crimes.

Minister S. Iswaran agreed with the proposals of cooperation against cybercrime of the two sides, gave an update on the cybersecurity situation in Singapore, and committed to making all-out efforts to build safe cyberspace.

Talking about the International Cyber Week this year with the theme “Cooperation for future post-COVID-19 pandemic", Singapore expressed hope that countries could raise the awareness of the significances of enhancing the anti-cyber-crime capacity as well as would join hands together to cope with the issue.
