Vietnam confirms two new cases, 32nd COVID-19 related death

Vietnam confirmed two more cases in the central city of Da Nang and the southern province of Binh Duong as well as two COVID-19-related deaths on August 29, reported the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The first case is a 20-year-old man in Binh Duong who was put under quarantine following his arrival at Tan Son Nhat airport on the flight VN5063 from Germany on August 27. A day later, he tested positive for the virus and is being treated at the provincial general hospital.

Meanwhile, the 55-year-old man in Da Nang tested negative for the virus on August 14 at Hospital 199 but positive on August 28. Earlier, he was treated at Da Nang Hospital from July 23 to August 13.

Vietnam has so far recorded 1,040 infections, including 690 locally-transmitted ones. Of which, 550 have been related to the Da Nang outbreak since July 25.

Also on August 29, 14 patients were given all-clear from the virus, raising the total number of recoveries to 677. There have been 32 deaths from the disease so far.

The 32nd COVID-19-related death in Vietnam is a 67-year-old woman in the central city of Da Nang, the second death on August 29.

The woman, who lived in Lien Chieu district in the central city, had a number of underlying health issues, including kidney failure and type 2 diabetes.

The cause of death has been recorded as severe pneumonia, progressive respiratory failure caused by COVID-19, complications of septic shock and irreversible multi-organ failure.

Before that, a 28-year-old man in the central province of Quang Nam died on August 29 morning, becoming the youngest among Vietnam's 31st COVID-19-related fatalities.

According to the Ministry of Health, the patient, residing in Que Trung commune of Nong Son district, suffered from leukeamia.

The cause of death has been recorded as pneumonia caused by COVID-19, complications of septic shock and irreversible multi-organ failure in patients with acute leukeamia.

A total of 61,100 people who came into close contact with cases or who had recently returned from epidemic-hit areas are being held in quarantine to undergo health monitoring, of whom more than 1,363 individuals are being put in concentrated isolation facilities at hospitals. The remaining cases are undergoing a period of self-isolation at home or at their various places of residence.

The south central province of Ninh Thuan recently has just presented certificates of medical isolation completion to 232 Vietnamese citizens returning from Malaysia.

According to the Steering Committee for COVID-19 epidemic prevention and Control in Ninh Thuan province, during the quarantine period, the 232 citizens were sampled for testing thrice by the Provincial Center for Disease Control and all had negative results for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Meanwhile, Da Nang on the morning of August 29 held a farewell meeting to extend thanks to 60 health expert and doctors from Binh Dinh and Thua Thien Hue provinces who had provided support for the central city in the fight against the pandemic./.
