Doctors have to do multiple duties
Tra said a number of doctors had come back to Vietnam before, only one other doctor and he stay at. However, everything still goes well until the new wave of Covid-19 sweeps through Cambodia, VTC News reported.
In Phnom Penh, hospitals, field hospitals, schools serve as places to receive Covid-19 patients.
According to Tra, initially, because the Cho Ray Phnom Penh Hospital receives patients with normal diseases, it has only one area with 30 beds dedicated for Covid-19 patients. Since February 20, the epidemic has complicatedly developed in Phnom Penh, the hospital has encountered difficulties.
A spike in the number of Covid-19 patients forced the Cambodian Government to put Phnom Penh and its neighboring provinces under lockdown.

“Most patients are critically ill. Treatment is very hard due to the shortage of medical workers. We have to do multiple duties of treatment, management, procedures, etc”, Tra was quoted by VTC News as saying.
On April 17, 19 medical workers of the hospital had to be quarantined after coming into contact with a Covid-19 patient, Tra added.
“We had to ensure safety for both patients and health workers. Living under the lockdown order, medical workers can’t return to their homes and stay at the hospital. Both patients and they have experienced the strained and difficult time”, Tra shared.
Cambodians feel secure when being treated by Vietnamese doctors
Tra said Cambodians often prefer being treated by Vietnamese doctors regardless of their severe or mild disease situation.
“Receiving such trust from Cambodian patients, we have made all-out efforts to give them the best treatment”, Tra said.
In Cambodia, if a person is hospitalized, the whole family accompanies to take care of them which sometimes makes it hard for treatment and epidemic prevention.

In addition, according to Tra, Cambodia’s anti-epidemic measures show limitations. It allows the suspected cases to return home after testing. After three days, if anyone tested positive for the virus, he/she will be informed and put under centralized quarantine.
Within three days, many Covid-19 cases visit many places, including hospitals. These people then come into contact with medical workers and make them be quarantined.
To prevent the Covid-19 spread, the hospital has to establish a separate quarantine area, classify patients and fully provide medical workers with protective gear and disinfects the area weekly.
“Amidst the complex development of Covid-19, Cho Ray Phnom Penh Hospital has remained its good operation. The entire medical staff have attempted and increasingly gained the trust of people here”, Tra said.
Sources who have information regarding the coronavirus situation in Cambodia told Khmer Times that approximately 600 new positive cases have been detected, as of midnight Thursday, 22 April. As of this morning, prior to the cases from yesterday being announced sometime today, Cambodia had logged 8,193 positive cases since the very first case was recorded on January 23, 2020, in Sihanoukville. A total of 59 fatalities have also been reported. Cambodian capital Phnom Penh and the Ta Khmau Municipality have been placed under lockdowns. Under the lockdown, most people are banned from leaving home for two weeks except to go to work, buy food, or for medical treatment. |
