The event saw the attendance of ambassadors, diplomats and representatives of travel companies from 13 countries, including Vietnam, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Cuba, Cyprus, Egypt, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Montenegro, Switzerland, Uzbekistan and Albania, according to the World & Vietnam Report.

At the event, Ambassador Thach briefed participants on remarkable growth of Vietnamese tourism.

In 2019, Vietnam welcomed a record 18 million foreign visitors (up 16.2% compared to 2018) and 85 million domestic visitors, contributing $32.8 billion, equivalent to 9.2% of total GDP.

With these results, Vietnam ranked in the top 10 countries posting the fastest tourism growth in the world, higher than the global average growth (3.8%) and the Asia Pacific region (4.6%).

In 2020, Vietnam’s tourism sector faced many difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic and international travel restrictions. Ambassador Thach said the roundtable and exhibition were organized at the right time, preparing for the revival of the international tourism market in general and markets in Vietnam and Ukraine in particular.

There is a high demand for tourism cooperation between Vietnam and Ukraine as many Ukrainians want to visit Vietnam and vice versa. Therefore, he proposed to open a direct flight between Vietnam and Ukraine and adopt a visa exemption policy for tourists of the two countries.

On this occasion, the Embassy and Trade Office of Vietnam in Ukraine set up a booth to provide information as well as promote Vietnam’s tourism to Ukrainian and international friends.
