Last week, World Vision Vietnam joined hands with the Urban Area Project Management Board of Nai Hien Dong Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang City to distribute livelihood assets to 16 households participating in the Ultra Poor Graduation Model and the “Clean and Neat” livelihood group.

With a total value of more than VND 203 million (USD 8,787), this distribution included three sewing machines and overlocking machines; three refrigerators for convenience stores; two hairdressing tool kits; two construction kits; two baking machines; one motorcycle repair kit; one oven for bread making; one set of sewing kit and one grid along with washing machines, dryers, and uniforms for the "Clean and Neat" livelihood group to expand their profession.

In addition to material support based on the actual and legitimate needs of each household, World Vision Vietnam and its local partner have also created favorable conditions for people to improve their well-being through livelihood training workshops, various forms of loans, educational support, etc., from which people are expected to escape poverty in the next two years.

World Vision Vietnam's Ultra Poor Graduation Model aims at the poorest households that do not have food security nor adequate health and nutrition as well as those who suffer from discrimination and social apathy, such as victims of human trafficking or social evils.

The Ultra Poor Graduation Model provides beneficiaries with basic resources, financial knowledge, technical training, life skills and social support to sustainably escape poverty.

Coming from one of the poorest districts in Hoa Binh Province, people of Yen Thuy District rely mainly on wet rice cultivation and small livestock. When it is not in the farming season, people live day by day from small and unstable sources of income. Many were forced to leave town and work as hired laborers elsewhere.

In Yen Thuy District, World Vision Vietnam works in four communes - Huu Loi, Bao Hieu, Lac Luong and Lac Sy, where the poverty rate could go up to 25-36 per cent. Difficult economic conditions have seriously affected the quality of life of the people in general and children in particular. Children's basic needs have not been guaranteed yet, including nutrition, school attendance, proper care and protection, participation in decision-making processes, etc.

In this situation, in 2019, World Vision Vietnam has introduced the Ultra Poor Graduation Model for extremely poor households with most vulnerable children. The participating households of this model received cows and training on animal husbandry, helping the cows to grow up healthy.

The Ultra Poor Graduation Model provided families with the possibility to join credit-savings groups in the villages, as well as giving them access to programs valuable for child care, including Positive Parenting and Celebrating Families.

Up to November 2020, the Ultra Poor Graduation Model has brought positive changes for 56/68 participating households. Specifically, these households have made small savings, renovated their houses - build toilets, and improved children's nutrition in each meal. An important source of income from 15 born calves is also helping them to enhance the well-being of their children.

Currently, World Vision Vietnam continues to support 30 families with extremely difficult circumstances with a total of 60 children, including 24 most vulnerable children and 26 sponsored children./.
