On the morning of May 31, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a ceremony to receive VND 100 million (US$ 430,000) and 5 tons of rice to support people in some localities to prevent and control the Covid-19 pandemic. The gift was sponsored by Nguyen Hoai Bac - a Vietnamese businessman in Canada.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Minh Khoi and Deputy Minister and Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Pham Quang Hieu.

Hieu highly appreciated Nguyen Hoai Bac's support in particular and the affection and sharing from overseas Vietnamese in general. He affirmed that this was a noble gesture, showing the companionship and sharing of citizens abroad to the homeland, as well as Vietnam's good tradition of "mutual love and affection."

According to the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, responding to the call from the Party, State, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 2020, Vietnamese people living in different places actively donated nearly VND 80 billion (US$ 3,470,000), along with many goods to support the prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country. They also supported the people in the Central region to overcome the consequences of floods. This practical, valuable and timely support has shown the hearts of overseas citizens who, despite living far away, always yearn to their homeland.

Businessman Nguyen Hoai Bac is currently the Chairman of Directors of Dai Son Investment and Development Joint Stock Company. He officially invested in Vietnam since 2001 through many projects in different fields.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, at the end of January 2021, Bac used the Vietnam - Canada Vocational School in Hai Duong as a concentrated isolation place and donated many medical supplies for the locality to prevent and control the pandemic.

Bac said: "Vietnamese people from all over the world are always willing to contribute, donate, support, and encourage people in the pandemic and flooded areas, making a small contribution to the people and the Government. There is a great need for benefactors, for people with good living conditions from all over the world to join hands to build a prosperous Vietnam. The happiness of each individual, many individuals, and collectives will spread and build a rich and powerful community, society, and country."
